I have a fantastic 14.1 Connemara X for sale, who really is a competion pony for an adult, he has hunted, done RC is perfect in everyway to ride, novice or experienced riders.

I have had loads of calls on him, but for children or teenagers, which I wont sell him too he can be willful and strong to lead, and needs to be handled by adults to keep him in line. He really is a super cheeky chap with loads of character, easy to do in everyway and he loves to work and when in work it stops his cheekiness on the ground.

I'd imagine a small adult would be interested, but surely a competent, experienced teenager could handle him just as well?

And a lot of competent teens have competent mums helping them out. So unlikely to be handled only by a child.

Also, as a competition pony for an adult - don't forget they will have to compete against adults on horses generally, as they are excluded from the pony classes by their age! So I wouldn't rule out competent teenagers if I were you.

Well in answer to your original question, yes there are plenty of us adults who ride and buy ponies

My friend (a fully grown adult) has just bought a 14.2hh Connie for herself although she does expext her daughter to want a share of him when she is big enough.

The last is for sale as he realy is to small but the other two are for keeps i've had the 13.2hh for 12 years. Sadly i don't have room for anymore. There are lots of adults who ride ponies but i also wouldn't rule out an experiance teenager either as has been said above. I hope you find a new home for your pony soon. Good luck.

Yes they do, My mum has a 13.2hh Dales Pony and I have a 14.1hh Pony on loan (im 20) he is also very strong and I was told she put him on loan partly because he was too strong for her girls.
Im sure you will find someone suitable for your boy, just could take a bit of time.

I have a 14.2/3 horse/ pony and I'm 25. I probably wouldn't buy one under 14.2 though. I agree with what the others have said, there are some very competent mature teenagers who are just as good as or better than some adults so I wouldn't rule them out completely.

Thank you all for your replies, I would consider a competant teenager or mother daughter, but the people I have had ring are for their children and most are under 12 and I as lovely as he is, I want it to be the perfect home for both him and his new owner, and that they are aware and able to cope with him. I am maybe being over careful but I just feel an adult will not blink at his games, I would hate for a child to be hurt or frightened by him. I am also happy to let him go on trial to make sure all parties are happy.

I am glad adults still ride ponies, he really is a lovely MW chap and can easily take a lot of weight and a friend who is 5'9" doesnt look small him he takes a lot of leg well.

I guess the right home will come along soon for him.

do you have a link to his ad?
how have you worded his handle-a-bility?
perhaps you need to stress how safe he is to ride, but quirky to handle?

as he is suitable for novices to ride, perhaps a competent mother/daughter share could work? i think of some of the brave little teens that do mounted games and stuff... is he speedy enough for something like that?
. x

I have a 14.1hh and love her to bits. Ponies are not just for kids. I bought mine for practical reasons - lower maintenance (native) easier for mounting and gates etc the list goes on...

I've got a pony expected to make around 14hh. Itching to ride him! So yes I think you will find an adult out there. Good luck with finding the right one.

I'd advertise him as suitable for a small adult or confident competent teen. No reason a teenager couldn't handle him as well as an adult - often as teenagers are more fearless and confident you'd be better selling to an experienced teen than to an adult.

I would think that someone wanting a serious pony club pony would be able to offer a suitable home, especially if there was a competent horsey parent on hand.

Most adults looking for ponies aren't looking for a competition animal, they are looking for hacks, or maybe for hunting/trec/endurance simply because of the height/age restrictions on classes.

You will really limit yourself if you exclude teenagers.

Sounds like my mare! Yes adults do still buy ponies - I don't want the hassle of a TB and wanted something that I could have fun on and not worry about it breaking!

I would say though that we tend to think sometimes our horses/ponies aren't suitable for children but the right child he'd prob be fine. I had a nappy TB that I sold to a 13 year old who is winning everything on him now - I obviously made sure they matched well first!

Try RC websites........price could be a factor too though

Yes I have a super NF they do BUT a lot tend to go for registered M&M because they can compete them without age restrictions.

The pony riders association which primarily is for adults on ponies have a website maybe you could advertise on there.

They still buy ponies!! I am currently looking but can't find one! Where abouts are you and how much are you looking for him? I want something to hunt/jump poss show (workers) currently hunt my exmoor pony!! Love them ponies are def the way forward!
