Mine drive me mad, I only have to open a stable door and they are right in there scarfing down lumps of it, steaming is best apparently. It drives me crazy, really irritates me.

If I lock them out of the stables they'll simply go to the field, steal it out of the barrow or off the muck heap. No way to stop them, it isn't as simple as just not taking them to the yard, the yard is their home.

They are Vet wormed and on proper dog food so they are neither hungry nor missing any minerals.

I really dislike my dogs at times, especially when they try to lick me before they've cleaned their teeth!

It's just one of those doggy things I guess, like rolling in raccoon muck (consistency of fresh tar) or chasing skunks (silly sods they never learn)

my cocker spaniel eats piles of fresh horse poo, like its going out of fashion - yuk dirty girlie Must be something in it that they like but wouldnt have a clue what. Have you noticed that dogs also like to chew of the hoof trimmings when the blacksmith comes.

I think it's because horse poo is full of nutrients because horse owners tend to stuff their neds full of so much food they can't digest it all properly. That's why rose growers like horse manure so much

They have dipped out with my lot then, it is summer, they eat grass and hay.

Mind, the bitch makes me retch on a regular basis, at the moment she is still clearing up after the puppies. It is a race between me and her to get to the little piles, she gets more than I do. Blurgh.

Dogs can't digest the carbohydrates in vegetables/vegetation but once the horse has done part of the work they get more nutritional value from it. And it clearly tastes goood!! (From Howard the Border!!)
