Do all dogs smell?

The kennel dogs get their beds washed weekly and if I’m late doing it it does lead to the dogs smelling more. It’s wash day today and as Scout aired his bollocks on the sofa last night I did tell him he smelt of teenage boy, minus the Lynx. 😄

Rew’s coat doesn’t smell, I do sniff him regularly. His breath is a but smelly but much better on the Canident. He is our only house dog and thankfully rarely farts, I’ve only smelt them a couple of times. He’s a short haired lurcher - he does moult but there’s not much of it. I run my hands over him everyday because he’s super tactile and enjoys it!
Farts are a whole other ball game!! Our dogs farts, all of them, can be weapons of mass destruction if they have found something suitably gross in the field!!

I rather expect that all house pets smell, but of course I can't smell my own - except for my very ancient cat (19) who recently decided to start using the litter box that has stood ignored for the previous 18.5 years. I REALLY don't like that cat pee smell (despite covered litter box with filter, deodorant litter, frequent emptying) and won't have another indoor cat once he's gone.

Dogs are all short-haired whippety things and they smell lovely 😊

Ariel bio, no conditioner, extra rinse :)

I used to do all my washing in Ariel or Persil bio back in the day. It used to rot all the stitches and collar and cuff edges on Mr. J and the boys cotton shirts. Plus both boys were always itching and having ruled out scabies or any other shameful nasties we swished from the bio. Voila! No more smelly teenagers inappropriately scratching themselves when in polite company. 😅

None of us humans can bear the stuff. But if I have a hard to shift stain I whip it over to my mum who boils everything in Ariel. 😄. They do fine back whiter than white!

Also persil non bio. Only a tiny bit though and no extra rinse.

I have to admit the extra rinse and spin is more for the fact that spinning again on the much longer spin does mean they spend less time in the drier. I think some financial ghuru gave the tip, I am a sucker for money saving tips but not entirely convinced the extra 15 minutes in the washing machine is less of a drain on finances than the 15 minutes saved on drying time.

Oh Christ! Now I shall wake up halfway through the night trying to work out is it really cheaper. 🤷‍♀️

I suffer from allergies and don't have a problem with bio though do put everything through on the anti-allergy cycle (uses more water) and extra rinse.

I'll probably get hammered now for wasting water :D

I never use fabric conditioner for anything.

Dog bedding washed here with Nikwax Rugwash in a commercial washing machine. It helps to get rid of the hairs.

It's all about economy with modern domestic machines, they use such little amounts of water, probably the cause of lots of allergies.

We have leather sofas which are covered with blankets.

The blankets get washed in non-bio and a cap full of zoflora weekly ish.

The whippet and lurcher drop very minimal hair. The GSD x BC drops more, but nothing in comparison to a standard long hair GSD.

I probably hoover an average of every other day. Mop the floors with wood floor cleaner and more zoflora.

Sides are all wiped over with zoflora wet wipes.

Both of my dogs smell, one more than the other. Both are short haired. Beds and blankets are washed weekly. Sofa blanket washed/changed every 3 days or so. All hard floors that are cleaned daily (hoover and mop). One smells rather doggy right now but her ears are clean, mouth is fine, but it's been a minute since she's had a bath.

Both are thoroughly brushed weekly (more when shedding) after I trim their nails.

Both look shiny and clean, no food intolerance, but they just smell doggy from time to time. No idea why, maybe because they're dogs? 😂 I have no idea. People say my house doesn't smell doggy, but I smell them from time to time.

The cat genuinely doesn't really have a smell though.

I don’t think my dogs smell. The kennel dogs are occasionally a bit whiffy if we’ve had particularly wet weather. We have had other collies here for training and they’ve honked. Our kennels are cleaned daily, hosed down, brushed out, fresh sawdust etc and I wonder if the imposters have spent too much time in a not so clean kennel environment and not been groomed as there is a marked difference in coat texture/appearance and smell. All ours are regularly groomed.

Purdey really isn't too stinky! However she does get bathed fairly regularly due to her obsession with rolling in anything and everything 🤣 My husband's basset hounds that he had growing up however were a whole different ball game - despite regular baths and groomers appointments! 😷

We use persil non bio for doggy/horsey items and kept our old washing machine when we upgraded so that we didn't have to taint the new sparkly one!

I offered to mind a small dog for a few days last summer, she came with her own little bed and omg, I actually had to leave it outside. The stench permeated the whole house 😷 Once that was out it was fine, the dog didn’t have a noticeable smell at all.

My dog smells lovely, usually of fabric conditioner from a blanket or hubbys deodorant when he lifts her off the bed in the morning.
I really dislike a stinky dog smell, i know someone with three big big dogs and I try not get near as even touching them makes my hands stink and boak 😂

The worst smelling dogs I ever met were three beautiful but huge Newfoundlands wearing bibs to catch the drool 😷

You've just reminded me of a Newfie the big girl and I met. Lovely friendly dog but I would have had to break my own nose if I had to live with him.
