Question as title really. I've just returned a fly rug that I bought for my mare, she has the same make of rug as a stable rug (Shires), it even has the same 'model' name, however it was far far too tight, both rugs were a 5'9. I returned it and as they didn't have the 6' I then tried another brand (Weatherbeeta - again one that she has a turnout version of that is a perfect fit) and again it is far too tight across her shoulders.

As I have now exhausted my local supply of fly rugs I'm going to have to buy one online and I would like to get the sizing right this time! She is a Welsh D, broad across the chest but with a short neck so full necks are generally too long. Are there any half neck versions about? She has half neck winter rugs and they are perfect. I've tried turnouts from Rambo and they are too narrow so I assume their fly rugs won't fit either.

I was just going to give up and leave her without but she has been really badly bitten last night so I'm going to try another if I can find something suitable.

Does anyone know how much wider than normal the Amigo XL Bug Rug is and if it comes up large or small? I'm debating trying this one but I couldn't get the wug to fasten and aren't these a similar design?

I've just bought an Amigo Mio fly sheet in my cobs usual size (6'3") and its much too big, I've had to take darts in the neck to keep it in place. He's 6'3" in every other brand I've ever tried, don't know how the Mio compares to the bug rug though.

My mare is 6'3 in rhino and amigo blankets, but 6'0 in the rambo fly sheet fits her perfect. I tried a 6'5 and was massive!

the amigo xl come up big! yeah, my horse is a 6ft 3 and i have awful trouble getting rugs big enough in the chest and neck, the xl is generous.

should have said i bought a gallop 6ft6 its like a bliddy miniskirt and will not fasten round tummy and super tight round neck its rubbish

I've had the opposite problem with Genie! She's in 6'3, and I forked out on a lovely Weatherbeeta one with detachable neck, and it was like a tent on her!

I've had the same problem....with several different makes....for my daughter's pony.
He ends up looking like a badly stuffed sausage.....I've ended up selling them on at a loss on eBay...I've given up on the whole fly rug idea and soak him in home made fly spray twice a day.

So far so good

Ime, Premier Equine rugs usually come up big...I have a 6'3" sweet itch Rambo which fits snugly and a Premier Equine one the same size that is much more roomy.
I'm pretty sure their fly rugs are on offer ATM too. For a cheaper alternative I would look at the Swish rugs range which are very similar to Preier equine rugs...not sure about sizings though but also on sale
