I keep Dragon on a DIY yard and although the ladies will cover holidays I'm fining myself being away for random nights/weekends and as they both have young families I know they'd rather be spending time at home, rather than doing my horse twice a day!!!
Just wondered if anyone uses Freelance grooms and how they find it works for them? Also, what would I expect to pay? just want to cover all options!!!!

I think i've rambled, sorry!x

yes. Works well but I use the daaghter of ny best friend. not someone "commercial" as it were.

I pay £15 for twice a day feed, bring in, turn out, skip out (no wet), no rug change, field right by stables.

No but not to say that i wouldnt

I use our local EDT as he lives in same village. He helped me out last year when I broke my collar bone & when we went skiing.
I can't remember how much he cost. Think it was about £15 per day to do three who come in at night.

I pay a lady and/or her daughter in the nearby village £10 per hour when I go away and it works great, usually only an hour's work a day as it's normally in the Summer. They just throw the laminitic some hay and bring the fattie in, just check the others. They go by my place anyway. I have also done her horses in exchange in the past. Mine are kept at home so it's the only option really other than livery which would be too expensive for four horses.

I'm lucky that my best mate is a freelance groom/ dog walker so I trust her implicitly, I know that she will look after my Neddie. You should ask around to see if anyone knows a good one locally. It really takes the strain off - for example my car broke down ALL last week in the snow and my mare who normally lives out had to come in nightmare getting lifts to work and trying to get ther twice a day. For things like that it's a god send knowing that there is someone you can call on and not be putting anyone out.
