Do dealers swap

Depends what it is you are selling. You could always ask them to sell yours for you if you don't want to do it yourself. Obviously they will charge you for doing this.

a straight swap or near enough?

They have to make money on every pony, so unless they think they can make money from what you are asking, expect a lesser pony or put some money towards your new one.

They would be delighted to swap.... if they could make a mint on your pony and the one you took off their hands was rubbish.

i have done a part-ex twice before, only because i could not stand the advertising etc. you do get less than the market value though, but it is for convenience

The thing is I don't have any capitol unless I sell the horse...so its kinda a catch 22 situation.
Maybe I'll just have to put it on the open market and see what happens. I hate fanny buyers too - the ones who aren't sure - personally I knwo when I like an animal and am able to make my mind up then and there.
GRRR selling GAH!

I feel your pain FF - I would like to do a straight swop for Porridge, have done it before (well no, I topped up the money) but TBH, and I cannot BELIEVE I am about to say this, I am not sure P deserves to be shunted off, she deserves a really nice home! Ach I don't know, I know what I want to buy though, so that helps!

Its just such a bloody hash isnt it. Taking hours out of your day to find the silly people get there and are like Ooh its bigger than I thought (?) or nah I don't like the colour etc etc Just makes my blood boil.

dealers are often asked to look for a pony on behalf of other people even if they don't have something suitable in at that specific time. Especially if they are trusted in the area.

In this situation, they may well do a straight swap or a decent part exchange as they know someone who would be interested in your pony as they will get two sales.

Contrary to what you might read on here sometimes not all dealers are out to rip you off. Yes they are looking to make a profit as this is their job. Nothing wrong with that IMO and it doesn't mean they are all evil rip off merchants
