It is baffles me that there are drivers out there that do not understand that when i do the universal signal for slow down.. in fact they wave!!
I was bringing my 2year old up the lane from the field today, it is a single track lane with little traffic and people dont genrally go very fast down it, we always wear hi viz gear and although said filly is homebred and been lead up and down that lane with traffic all her life she is nervous by nature and does not like traffic so i always take sombody with me to help.
So a little ford KA which i have seen a lot and i pressume belongs to a local came down the lane and i do the usual slow down arm waving movement and big smile.. to my horror she doesnt slow down

oh god she's going to hit us... she passes us really close, too close going about 30mph (granted not massively fast but this is a single track and ive got a very scared 2year old on the end of a rope in a hedge) luckily inka waited until the car had almost past before flipping her lid and pushing me over, next thing i know Inkas on her way back to the field and the car is sort of stopping as if to see if im ok.. once i was up they just drove off, que me giving them two fingers ''oh that hurts'' turns out ive broken my finger and have a shaken up filly to boot, my last image was of the driver waving at me as if the slow down signal was a simple hello gesture!!

Ok rant over.. phew.. but really there are so many similar posts on here i dont understand drivers surly they wouldnt be too pleased if they got a hoof through their windscreen!!

In a word - No!

I have (on my horse) signalled VERY clearly before to turn right off a road only to have the woman behind me deciding she was going to go first and cut me up!!

Honestly, I just thought what an idiot. Clearly some people have NO idea!

You have to be ultra aware these days and prepare for the idiots!!!

I know what you mean about some drivers...but today they shocked me! My boy ogt chased by a dog and ended up on quite a busy road! The cars coming both ways stopped and put on their hazard warning lights until he had been caught and calmed down!

Proves that there are some sensible ones out there

Kitcat youre quite right, there are some nice drivers out there, i know because the drivers around us are on the whole really great. Hence why i was so shocked at this woman (a local none the less!) She is quite old and after today im pretty sure she shouldnt be behind the wheel.. waving when a horse is clearly distressed is mental!

How old? I mean not to understand the slow down signal is one thing, (although still no less stupid!) but to not realise a stop sign when some one is standing in the middle of the road?!?! Methinks she needs glasses!!! or not to be driving anymore!

I have applied the stop sign 3 times whilst crossing a motorway bridge and she (old) didn't even slow down, I riding near the white line on a B road as we only have standard height barriers so I like not to be too close to them. how she didn't hit my schooling whip I don't know.

she looked like she was 'tunnel driving' oblivious to anything else that was going on.

They are the ones who frighten me the most.

I'm all for independence, and I hope to still be driving myself around when I'm in my 70's and 80's, but some of these old folks are really scary. Bad eyesight, slow reactions and modern roads are not a happy combination.

I'm afraid that as a horse rider and a cyclist, as well as a car driver, it is women drivers who frighten me the most. And yes, I'm a she!
