This is probably a very stupid question but I'm wondering if a dog being entire makes it smell worse. I walk an entire large breed dog who has never been socialised so to avoid any possible issues with other dogs when I walk him I pop him in the car and walk to a quite and open area but my car always stinks after him?? Just wondering if he is just smelly or it's a boy thing ?

I'm pretty sure they don't smell any more than female dogs, having had 6 male dogs of my own/ in my family. I think it's down to the individual dog.

I can always smell that 'doggy' and cat smell in peoples homes and i practically put people on a lie detector when i ask them about my home but they assure me it doesnt smell 'doggy'! Same with peoples dogs when you make a fuss of them, i can always smell them on my hands and clothes after. I just put it down to diet and the fact our cats and dog are fed on RAW/BARF so they dont smell like dogs on commercial foods!

I'm the same with my house, convinced I'm just immune to noodle smell, forever mopping floors with zooflora and umpteen air fresheners lol. I guess this particular boy must just be a smelly dog lol

OdorBac Tec 4 .... Use for mopping floors, it will change your life forever :) I also put some in an air freshener bottle diluted with water to spray around and on fabrics.

I think some dogs just smell more 'doggy' than others but entire males must give off a different odour because Rufus could tell an entire male from a neutered one 300 yards away. He was never wrong :)

Some horses just smell more 'horsey' too. My Irish draft used to have that proper horse smell that the others never really had. Sorry I'm rambling now........................

It's down to several things IMVHO. The breed. Some breeds smell more and in my experience the gundogs have a certain sort of ponginess to them, especially the large floppy eared types. Dogs that aren't kept groomed smell. And I mean properly groomed to take out that old undercoat...and occasionally bathed. Dogs with dental issues smell. Dogs with anal gland issues can smell. It;s nothing to do with gender. But that's just my opinion

I feel sorry for any dog having to live in a house in a fug of air freshener! I hope my house doesn't smell doggy, but with 4 it may do.
Picked my son up from uni yesterday and the first thing I asked when he came in the house was 'does it smell of dog'. I'm always looking for unbiased opinion. He said no, btw.
MILs dogs really stink, cheap food and neglected shaggy coats.

What breed is he? Some breeds are definitely smellier than others. I’ve nearly been knocked out by the smell of Newfoundlands before ?

I haven’t noticed my males smell more or less than my females , but I could also be immune as I don’t think my dogs smell “doggy” at all.

I used to work with a guy who had Shar Peis. He gave me a lift once, and the car smelled so bad that I had to open the window to avoid gagging. He said that the breed were naturally smelly, because of all the wrinkles, but I'm not sure whether that was true for all Shar Peis or just his!

Like the doctor jokes...
only ....I went to the vet to tell him my male had no nose,,
he asked “ but how on earth does he smell?”
I replied ..” terrible”

My own dog life history ..one male corgi at age twelve...no idea if he smelt..I was twelve.
Then more than 10 females...no issues..

currently,I have an intact male / spayed female combo..

the current male doesn’t smell per se..he’s a poodle,,deep brush/ combed daily..washed every two weeks..he smells of Pantene shampoo....but his pee does smell ...my yard gets a disinfectant wash daily ,otherwise in the Italian sunshine it can pong somewhat.
This never happened with an all female setup...
IMO it is the male urine that smells...if it stays on the fur of an unbrushed dog ,the house furnishings will smell too....I wash own my bedding every two days as the dogs sleep on my bed..
