Do fly blankets shrink in the wash?

Trying to figure out what happened to my flyrug or horse?. I washed it over the winter. Tried it on my mare and it seems a little tight. Wouldn’t have thought the type of material used would shrink. It is the Mark Todd fly rug. Don’t think my mare has gotten any bigger, and I bought a 6’6” rug when she is between 6’3” and 6’6”

Yes they do, it should stretch again with a bit of wear though

If you wash above 30 degrees C, many do shrink. My Rambo Sweet Itch Hoody did that. I now wash them on a cool wash (max 30) and no problems since.

I only wash my rugs on a 30o wash and not noticed any shrinkage.

They normally stretch back I find and I wash mine at 60.

I would suggest washing mesh type rugs in cold or 20c - any more and the mesh tightens.
I never wash anything equestrian at over 30c, but fly masks/rugs in cold water only.
