My mare lives out in the summer for as long as possible only coming in on a winter when the ground becomes saturated. She has never required a rug. This year she had a nasty fly bite on her back so I put a fly rug on. When I brought her into the stable before a storm I removed the fly rug. She spent the next day hunched up. Should I have put a rug on her to replace any warmth lost by the fly rug and am I going to have to rug her all winter now?
