Do heavier reins give a better contact?

One for dressage bods here. Been musing the past week or so, are a heavier set of reins likely to give a horse a better "feel" into the contact than a light weight pair?

Reasoning for question is I have been using some of the Libby's synthetic reins on my Bitless bridle, and they are a lot lighter than "normal" reins.

Not sure about the horse, but I find it easier to keep a steady contact with a heavier rein - just feel like I have more in my hand if you know what I mean - which in turn would give the horse a better feel I suppose.

I have tried the new flexi reins and whilst i don't mind them SJ and XC, I don't like schooling in them.

It's all personal preference I suppose!
