We live on the edge of a village with fields two or so houses down and we've had an increasing number of spikey visitors since we moved there. A few weeks ago we had 4 one night! I buy hedgehog food and they get any leftover cat food as well. We also have a hedgehog house in the bushes but I'm not sure if anyone has decided to nest there. Luckily our neighbours are wildlife friendly as well so they feed them too. We have a very small one which has been visiting so we've been feeding him like mad but I think in another week we might need to catch him and take him to a rescue as he won't be big enough to survive hibernation
We frequently get them in the garden, usually with their heads in the cat's food bowl! They are only about at night and I have to be careful if I go outside in the dark as they come right up to the back door
Slugs give them lung worm which kills them, they also dont eat that many. Earth worms are more of a delicacy and you find them underneath lots of leaves in corners where there is some mud, the hedgehog will also go to the leaves for cover and to make a nest, so dont have a tidy garden let it grow wild. They are adorable. If you do get one you can out out some whiskas cat food they adore it.
