Do home rug re-proofers work?

IME, they never are as good as when they were new if you wash/reproof. I try to avoid washing at all costs (rain sheet now 7 years old and still good). I've tried washing and reproofing with Nikwax wash-in and spray on products, but neither worked well. The best I've come across is Gill marine A_003 reproofing spray. It's £9 per can, though I'm not sure if one would be enough for an entire rug. Probably depends on the size and whether a neck is included. Might be worth a try?

Tent reproofer better than most equine products. Fabscil or similar spelling is best IMO. Rug must be clean and dry when apply. Doesnt work if apply over dirt. I tend to power hose, and dry. I avoid using detergents. I think will rewater proof most rugs!

Fabsil is brilliant - never had a problem with any rug that I've re-proofed with it. I do try to avoid washing rugs but they have to be clean to be repaired so any damaged rugs get a wash & a couple of coats of fabsil

I wash them rinse them with a washin reproofer and them spray them with fabsil which is by far the best spray on reproofer .
It works well .

Agree with all, Fabsil is brilliant. I pressure wash all my rugs with cold water, the turnouts get the linings cleaned with a little washing up liquid and dandy brush, then pressure washed, Outers get mud brushed off, and washed in worst areas then when dry, paint on Fabsil.
Rugs sent out for washing and reproofing are done on too high temperatures IMO and are never waterproof again. The trouble is you quite often don't find out til the first time, in bad weather, you use it! My rainsheets are seven years old, my turnouts are two years older, and all are waterproof to this day.

Have found Gold Label Rug Proof to be very good. Easy to spray onto rugs and have even sprayed a rug whilst on the horse! Rain beads off the rug as soon as sprayed and seems to last.
