Do horses dream?

It is just a curious though really, I know cats and dogs do and sometimes I would love to know what exactly they dream about. But I have never seen any evidence that my horses do, they both lie flat out and sleep in their stable and I have heard the little mare snore !:D but dream? Like dogs n cats? With all the paw thrashing etc? Just wondering..... It would explain why the beds are much messier on some days and not on others....
 
Yes! i am certain they do, my horse was sleeping and i was sitting outside his stable having a cup of tea and he was neighing in his sleep he was totally soundo lying flat out eyes closed lol, the stallion on my yard trots in his sleep , i havent seen it but his owner was telling me about it :)
 
They definitely do - what about I couldn't tell you! One of my TB mares was flat out in the field and was thrashing all over the place - I ran over thinking there was something wrong only to find she was flat out running on her side and even paused and tucked her front legs up as if she was jumping something! She then stopped and started to snore then woke up when a youngster wandered over and poked her - was really weird but just like a cat or a dog!!! My stallion sometimes whinnies in his sleep!!:D
 
Yes, def. My filly was lying down in the field and I sat down with her. She fell asleep with her head in my lap and was twitching and galloping in her sleep. In fact she did a really sweet whinny and woke herself up :)

Another time I was sitting up on night foal watch and the horse next door was galloping away fast asleep!
 
Most definitely think horses dream... Have watched my big chestnut having a chat, pulling faces, snoring (big time) to himself whilst flat out but always in his fluffy bedroom. As you can see my piccy proves it (click on Greymeadow and view my lad Zzzzzing)! Probably dreaming of carrrrotttzzzz carrroootttzzz zzzzzzz

Definitely! But what I want to know is, do they get the wierd dreams - perhaps that they can fly, for example - like we do, and if they do what on EARTH do they make of them when they wake up!?!?!
