I think they are so much more aware of everything than we are!

My boy was put to sleep after an 8month struggle to get him sound following a car accident, he was always scared of strangers, and to vaccinate him we had to twitch him...the day we had him pts, he was really friendly with the vet (who he's previously never let touch him) and stood like a rock for the final injections...I've never known him so calm.

Another time...two years ago, my horse mysteriously stopped eating, and had colic type symptoms, on investigation his large intestine had swollen to about 4 times its actual size, but all bloods came back normal. He was at the vets for 7 days and didn't eat or drink a thing - was on a drip constantly, on the 7th day the vet rang to say he wasn't getting any better and it wasn't fair to keep him like this so we decided to pts - I went down to the vets to say good bye, and as I walked away from him he whinney'd at me and nodded his head up and down, and kept whickering...he'd never been a vocal horse...I decided I couldn't put him down there. And I needed to take him home to do it - once we got home he was really calm with me in his stable and freaked out as soon as I left - I spent the night asleep in the corner of the stable, the vet was booked to pts the following morning, when I woke up he'd pulled a packet of mints out my pocket and started eating them - from that moment on he gradually got better and better, and he's now in perfect health...he wasn't ready to go!

We have an old Highland at our RDA centre, he's been there since he was the darkest dappled grey and is now completely white (a whole lifetime dedicated to his job). One day he was being led around the school carrying a child who suffered from severe epilepsy. As he was going down the far longside of the school, he stopped dead and REFUSED to move. The child did as he was told and tried kicking the horse on, and the leader was stumped as he didn't even acknowledge him.... They even asked the child to stand to see if he needed a wee. When the child didn't do as he was told they realised he had started fitting, long after the horse had frozen still. By this point the child's legs had locked onto the saddle and they couldn't get him down. The horse stood like a rock during the whole ordeal and only walked on again once the child had been safely taken out of the arena.

Unfortunately, due to H&S rules, they no longer allow Epileptic people to ride there :(

Love these stories.

I don't have anything in particular really. But I do believe that they have greater senses then humans.

When I'm down or upset they are much more clingy and stuck to my side... Both my horse and dog.

Maybe I am looking into it too much but my horses isn't a 'hugging' type but there are times when he literally walks into your arms for affection.

I had him booked in to be PTS after he came out of winter looking bad due to his artiritis. Due date was 2 weeks away. In those 2 weeks he perked up and was like a different horse, so maybe he knew.

Now I look at him and he's had his months to enjoy himself and I feel like he will tell me when he's had enough... I can see it in his eyes to be honest, he communicates all the time I just have to be able to understand.

I remember getting our old Doberman PTS, we came home from the vets heartbroken. As we cried in my room our ridgeback ran into the room with a crisp packet stuck to his face... I'll never forget that moment, I still believe he knew and wanted to make us laugh.

They tell us all sorts through their eyes and body... Little things like my dog stares at his treat cupboard for food :p

I do re-call one day when he ran to the door as if my dad was home from work. No sign of him or his car. Around 1 min later there is my dad pulling on the drive. I was amazed at how the dog knew cos my dad wasnt near the house and couldn't be seen/ heard at that point.

Animals are so special :)
