Do horsey people actually have savings??

Yup, some in a joint account, manage to put a nice chunk in their each month between us (I have 2 competition horses on DIY) and a 'Amerigo Vega' Savings account which is about £500 off atm, so should be ready to use early next year before the event season!

Both horses are insured, oh and the dogs!

We need to come up with 50k by Aug 2013 to do with the new house...so saving is essential!!!!

Yes I save £100 a month in a mini-cash ISA - after about 10 years I have the grand total of £400 as no soon as I put it in I have to take it out again to pay a bill. And my mortgage and car loan wipe that out that small saving in any case.

After graduating nearly 20 years ago and working ever since I would hope to be better off by now but actually I'm worse off than ever and have gradually sold everything I can including my horsebox and I haven't had my hair cut since May.

If I were married or living with a partner on a similar salary then I would probably be quids in (or if I didn't have a horse :D ). This is why my resolve at the moment is not to have another horse after this one unless I win the lottery.

I did before I was signed off long term sick and was waiting for my benefits to come through, now have a small 4 figure sum.

ETA: I think my username says it all really :D

My mantra is 'do I need it?'.

When my husbands parents got married the priest, as part of his address to them, told them to ask not do I want it, nor do I need it but could I possibly live without it!

Think it went straight in one ear and out the other for his mum!

I sort of have savings but the more I seem to save, I'm delving back in the pot not long later to pay for something equine related. I do have an emergency fund which is jointly held with my husband to cover for vets bills etc for my horses and cats as not insured. Three guesses what I'm doing today - yes delving into that little pot again as the cat needs a visit to the vets.......

Who wants to be the richest in the graveyard?
;)
I dont purely because i have everything i 'need' and when it comes to it i always have family to fall back on
Although i do worry abit when my friends say 'ill use my savings' and i have Zilch
Plus whe i die my Family will get a nice juicy pay out :D

No, not in reality - I do have my 'colic fund' (now to be broodmare injury fund) but have my jeep on HP and a secret loan hubby doesn't know about. I think I will be doing some maths tutoring this year!
