do horsey people smell ?

OH said to me one night when I got home from yard, that he would know if I was lying and having an affair, as I would come home smelling decent for a change!

OMG yes ... especially if you've been messing with haylage - ewww wee smell :o

My coats stink and are forever in the washing machine - Im sat in work with my wellies near my desk (I need to get off my fat ass to move them soon) peokle are avoiding my desk - but to be fair Ive doused myself in perfume so smell half decent today and was only there 10 bloody minutes to make sure foaly hadnt arrived ! :(

The man in my tesco said to me the other month 'smelling lovely as usual' cheeky ****** :p

Then went to my friends the other day (after being at the farm but changed) and said ahhh I miss the smell of ponies  haha I locked myself in her bathroom for 10 mins scrubbing hands and fluffing hair :D

I'm afraid yes, pretty sure we all smell. I was amazed the first time I went to my old yard to pick up my YO for a girly night on the town, been there every day for 18 months never noticed any odd smells. But all clean and in going out stuff the whole place stank!
Very odd as the next day, in usual gear, no smell at all!
I think we get so used to it you filter it out so you don't notice at all.

I agree tho I find ciggys and strong perfume much worse

I don't think I smell - I hope not!

I work with horses and always apply makeup and perfume before I leave for work. I'm always showered and wear fresh clothes daily, although I shower at the end of the day rather than the beginning of it. In the summer I often shower mid-day to return in the afternoon as I get very sweaty. I like to feel clean and fresh.

I'd hate to think I smelled.

Hopefully not too much. All boots and chaps are cleaned and left in tack room. Wellies are hosed at the end of mucking out (as are the barrow and tools) and mucking out clothes go straight in the wash. All tops and jods are clean on to ride and jackets are washed regularly.

Yep sadly we all smell, like others have said it gets in your pores and no matter how many times you change clothes and shower you smell horsey.
I have been to the horses, showered, washed my hair, blathered myself in baby lotion and baby talc, put on deo and body spray and been in proper clothes and people I have never met have still said oh you have horses? Cause they could smell it, I can never personally smell it maybe cause Ive been round horses all my life, I cant smell anything on my yard either, but friends have come to see me and said the yard has a smell of haylege and shavings, we wont mention what they said about the muck heap :D
Its like people who work as joiners smell like wood, fish mongers smell of fish, farmers smell of cattle or sheep, everyone has an odour of what they spend most time doing. Still would rather smell like horses, have short nails, hair scuffed up in a pony tail and a weather beaten look then stink like a french tarts boudoir, lol - Stinks of horses and proud of it :)

I muck out his lordship's "**** pit" in my John Deere onesie, work up a sweat humping his haynets and bales of bedding around, then cycle 16 miles to work. Shower at work yesterday was from a can. You would have to ask my cow-orkers as I have little sense of smell.

I make sure I don't smell but my friend used to stink! she used to wear the same fleece to the yard and to work! you'd walk to her desk and Christ it smelt so bad! i'd never do that! yuckie yuck yuck!!

I love the smell of horses but not wee soaked stables! Thankfully I only have poo and mud and general horse to deal with :-)

I was smelling my horse's lovely horsey smelling breath today and going 'aww you smell of horse breath, go on smell her' to my OH, he didn't seem enthusiastic!

In their horse gear yes!

But once washed and changed no.

Its not a long term clinging smell!

My other half in work one day wrote on an storage box.
"KP smells of horse"!

We then moved to a brand new building and said box moved into an archive room.

About a year later said box appeared in the general office under a desk for all 200+ staff to see!
It stayed there for weeks haunting me!
It back in the archive room now!

TBF he's getting a bit more relaxed... a year or so back I'd have to clean my teeth as well as he didn't trust me not to kiss him straight after kissing the horse!

Haha!

oh dear. Yes we do stink - to 'regular' folk who don't shuffle turd into wheelbarrows on a daily basis. But it's alright, clears the pathway and long ques in busy supermarkets :D

I'm almost certain I stink but nobody has said anything (to my face at least!) so I try not to worry about it!

My car, on the other hand, smells awful. Well, smelled... I cleaned it yesterday as I was actually ashamed to take people anywhere in it!

Edited to add: I was in my local supermarket the other week in my horsey garb, and the kid behind the till said 'do you has horses?', I replied 'yes, I know, lots of carrots!' and he said 'no, I can smell it... Horse wee!' I nearly died, my other half was virtually on the floor in hysterics!

Haha yes we stink! This topic came up with my best mate the other day while mucking out. She wouldn't go to the pub cos she was worried that we smelled. I said I didn't care and I like the smell. She said 'yeah...' Silence. Then 'smells a bit wee-ee'. Which is true. BTW horse breath is a lovely smell!

oh yes, regularly get pushed away from oh if I try to kiss him on my return with the disgusted retort "do you just let your horse pee on you???" - cant smell it myself ;)

Yes.... but only of that lovely horsey smell ;)

hmmmm...

Remember the other winter I went to work in my riding jacket, as I was going straight to the yard when I knocked off... yes, its a little dirty, but I couldn't smell it....... any way, I work in an office, and my room is tiny... so, that day I went off for lunch, door shut, window shut, radiator on.... come back one hour later, opened the door, and :eek: OMG!! what's that smell :D Cue windows wide open, fan on, etc before the boss came back :D

And freshly opened haylage.... yummy !!

With you on that one... Its their faces that amuse me, they sniff each other look at the soles of their shoes, the face wrinkles up and you can get through a check out in record time...lol ;)

In the summer - not to bad but in the winter YES... I've walked into the chiropractors and he's sniffed the air and even asked me if i can smell that smell. To which i reply, yes it's me.. (even after putting on normal shoes and leaving the wellies in the car)!!! I don't mind wit the chiro as OH goes in their regularly stinking - as he's a farrier! :P
