I am planning on buying a companion next year for my foal (not yet born!).
I have been offered my ponys daughter, I would love her. She should make 14.2 and is a Welsh C x Paint. Not coloured though. Shes a yearling (2 in the spring), with decent conformation.
I have been given some money by my Dad for my birthday - 40th!! - so can afford her. I have an empty stable. Shes £300, I can't see me getting anything much cheaper next year. Does that sound like a reasonable price?
Its just time at the moment and the long dark days...

I would of thought that if you were planning on buying next year anyway and it being she's your pony's daughter i would go for it, think of it as serendipity! Sounds like a very reasonable price!

Good luck!

I think that sounds very reasonable, buy her, buy her, buy her! Then put on lots of photos! Like you were going to get any other answer on here, he, he!

You lot are no help at all!!
How do I break it to OH? He will not be pleased! I thought I could lie (say am looking after her for a friend) or brazen it out and use the age old sweetener to stop him stropping.

If you go for it I'd use the age old sweetener

Will they let you buy your ponies daughter after the winter? Or is she actually 'for sale.' and they're trying to find her a home now, so to speak?

I think she will cost more come the spring! I did think I could not pick her up until early January by which time hopefully the days are getting a bit longer. (They have her out in their own field so she isn't costing a lot)

Ooh I see, fair enough. In that case, go for it

You've got more than enough reasons I'm sure to explain to your OH why she will make a good investment

Tell him he'll have a new hobby too as he'll have plenty of foals/ horses to photograph

Win Win!

Go for it. I always like the youngsters to have companionship with a similar aged youngster. As long as you are not breeding a small pony foal it should work very well.

As you probably already know, it is best not to the 2 year old in with the mare and foal until he is about three months old as young foals are really not very robust and the mare may be very protective.

My pony - the mum - has the most wonderful temperament ever. She is worlds no. 1 unflappable ponio.

I'm breeding a horse foal so the sizing should work out OK... am getting excited now!
