Firstly no pics sorry, been to see once and honestly didn't think I'd seriously think I'd be considering buying so didn't take any (plus phone which use as camera keeps switching itself off)
Anyway this may be long so I suggest a cuppa and settle down.
A few decades ago (I'm an oldie
) I realised that the only way I could afford a top horse was to buy one as a foal, fast forward a few years and after getting a few to 5 or 6 and realising that what I had was not top class I now have a 5 and 2 year old. The best horses I've ever had and ever likely now to have, the 2 year old is dressage bred, the 5 year old won a lot of dressage last year so I wouldn't jump him as didn't want to break him but then got bored and hes done really well sj this year and done one 1 day event which he won. Anyway my problem is I like horseball but it ruins my horses flatwork
.
A friend is friends with someone who produces horses for filmwork and I've always said if he had an Iberian he would sell it would be perfect for horseball. Well this has happened. The horse in question is not good enough to show (not a great mover/confirmation) and will not do as well at dressage as what I already have, also although it has potential to be a great horseball horse will need a lot of work to turn into one so I offered a silly price thinking it would not be accepted - and it has! Do I get a third horse???? On the plus side apart from work (60hr weeks and odd hours includ weekends) there is no man or kids in my life so do make time for the horses, I have enough grass for 3 and have enough hay and straw brought in for 3, also have a 3rd stable which is full of straw so just need to find a new home for that.
On the downside 2 horses is fun, 3 I find a chore especially after a 12 hour shift at work (bearing in mind work is an hours drive away as well). I was thinking of getting a sharer for the new horse. I would do my horseball including some schooling. The sharer could do what they wanted be that just hacking or dressage/jumping etc. I have transport so they could come along to shows with me and my 5 year old (and later the current 2 year old) or if they were just into hacking I don't mind boxing to for example Thetford Forest. I would still do the horses twice a day but any help would be appreciated but means they don't have to be committed to coming to my yard 7 days a week. I've never shared before and have read some horror stories. I don't mind nannying a keen novice as some peoples opions of their fantastic experience isn't always my opion! Also would rather have someone whos really keen to learn and improve than someone who thinks they know it all and just wants to turn up and take him to shows! It would be nice to have some company as only me on the yard with horses.
The other downside is cost. Saved up for years supply of hay, then saved up to get lorry through MOT and now am saving up as the loo, washing machine and shower/bath does not work in my house, (I use the showers at the gym, work and my parents who live a 2 min walk from yard before anyone says yuk
) also need to stock up on heating oil and this money would need to be spent on rugs and a saddle for the new fella instead of the house! Its one thing going outside to the loo in the middle of summer but getting tired of it now the weather not so good
I keep mulling it over, first thing in the morning and last thing at night when I'm desperate for the loo I think I must be sensible and sort the house out, the rest of the time I think buy the new fella
Thank you for getting this far, dont know about you but my teas now cold!
