I am desperate for some advice so please please if anyone can help I would be very grateful. My sister had to give away her chihuaha last June after splitting up from her husband and having to go into rented(no pets) accomadation. She found a new home for angel and gifted her on the promise that if the lady couldn't keep her she would let my sister know. My sister has just found angel 2 now be living with another girl for the last 4 months and that angel is looking in poor condition. She is beside herself with guilt for giving her away. Can she legally ask for her back? Sorry for the long post but I can't bare how upset she is over finding angel in such an unhappy state.

No sorry your sister relinquished any ownership over the dog when she gave her away. I am so sorry to hear that Angel isn't happy :(

Oh no! Thankyou so much for answering. She is trying to get in touch with the lady she originally gave her to but through the dreaded facebook as heard back that as she has fed and watered the dog for a year she won't give her back. I think you are right weeble she will have to try the nicey route or they will dig their heels in. Goes to show you can never trust people!

She would definately pay for her back, just a matter now of trying to get hold of her to discuss it face to face as nicely as she can and offer the money. She is beside herself. I just hope it can be sorted amicably very soon!

Oh dear. I'd ask nicely first, but be tactful and don't emotionally blackmail the current owners. If that works great, if they softened or say no, throw money at it. Good luck.

Good luck. Bear in mind that Angel might look poor if she's been unwell or just stressed with 3 homes in a year, new owner might be doing fine.
