Im not going to go on and on but ive got to defend myself!
These people took feed without asking or without paying for it! Is that acceptable to you? Would you be happy to see small ponies being over fed?
Im quite a nice YM actually. They park their lorries/trailers for free, I stand with their horses while the vet, dentist, physio, blacksmith visit for free. I arrange get togethers and make sure there is no bad feeling/bitching on the yard! They get what they want and most of it isn't charged for. I have got to make some money its my BUSINESS my JOB my INCOME. So before you get on your high horses and say I shouldn't be talking about them behind their backs just take a minute to think what you would do and if you would have been impressed by their actions?! I work 7 days a week I haven't a had a holiday for years, No I am not complaining but sometimes people take the p*ss and why shouldn't they be talked about?

You offer all these services? I don't want to be picky...but you refused to poo pick mine?

Why did they have to remove the coffee creams from Roses and Quality Street
If it was my yard I would explain about the over feeding then on the week end just give the two ponies a handful of feed and then leave the rest for owners to give
Oh, ok, then I can tell you.....Roses and Quality Street didn't remove them - oh, no, they get eaten by shop staff who replace them with endless nasty unidentifiable toffee ones.

So pleased you posted this as Vieshot's comment re; the word "wont" made me cringe....sorry Vie but it did
. Wont is a perfectly good word to have used in the sentence; likely younger people don't use it much these days; or even more likely, they don't know what it means.
They aren't kids, they are two adults??
The type that know best. Don't get me wrong I do like them as people but I don't rate their knowledge. That isn't me being bi*chy its a fact! Im keeping out of it now, they went and bought their own feed when I said they couldn't take mine without asking or paying! As someone said ages ago in this post, I think they do it because they think the ponies will love them more for it. They treat them like you would treat a pet dog.
We do poo pick too, if not every day, every other day!! I arrange the worming plan and get them in to give. I pretty much do everything for them. They just turn up and ride. Yes that is full livery but alot of it should be charged for and isn't. The yard is all under cover and to be honest is one of the nicest in the area (not blowing my own trumpet)!
Now, who has the popcorn? Anyone started on the wine yet? x
You could always ask them to leave. Seriously, if you as the YO have a duty of care towards your liveries, and these two people are essentially undermining your efforts to provide adequate care and damaging their horses' health into the bargain, I think you would be within your rights to ask them to leave.
PS. As per Shilasdair's post above, if you DO chuck it all in and get that job in Tescos, you can always pig out on the coffee creams out of the Roses and Quality Street tins.
Ive told myself to give them until after christmas and see what happens (within reason) they are nice people and I don't know if I would have it in me to ask them to go (unless of course they completely annoyed me or did something dangerous)! They were up this morning and had obviousely taken into account what I had said about not tying up when mounting etc, I gave them a hand and it was fine. I won't always be around to help though so I hope they will keep it up!
Firstly, the phrase 'are wont to do' is very poor use of the English language, please rephrase so i can understand what you mean as this is the sort of thing a four year old would write.

Erm, I think that *IS* proper English. "Wont" is something you see in many well-written older novels

Not really. That is the whole thing about full care; you have to do things which are out of the norm. For example; I have been known to wander around a field trying to get video footage of a liveries horse which was for sale - to help her out, not me as I knew I was loosing a horse. It took 3 hours to get the correct footage, the horse was sold and I was paid nothing for taking this time. I've also spend a good deal of time caring for horses injuries/illnesses and I don't charge. It's part of what goes on....which is why livery doesn't really make a whole lot of money if you were to add up your man-hours.
True! I suppose the lack of "thankyou's" lately has added to my situation and my rant on here. I don't do it for the money and I try not to be one of those YO's that charges for everthing! If people leave my yard I want them to tell people that I do a good job, my reputation is important to me! Aw well that is liveries I guess, I know they are not all bad, but there are a few who expect the earth.
Sorry to be picky but isn't the whole idea of FULL livery that ALL services etc are included in the price? The same with feed if it's included in the price.
In Rochelles boots I would simply reduce the breakfast feed on the days the women are riding and leave the remainder of that feed in a bucket outside each stable so that the owners could feed them when they returned from their ride. Simple.
I must admit my last YO was quite a godsend and did many things out of normal hours even for us DIYers! When Flint got colic he stayed with me for hours and was always bringin out something to eat and drink through the night as he did for many others
That was the plan to start with. Either I would leave the feed out completely and they would give them it when they had ridden or they could give them some carrots or treats when they had ridden and the horses would be fed with all the others first thing. The next thing I know they have bought their own feed!

And no, I won't shut up...just because you're having a teenage tantrum although you are quite funny

Sorry Vieshot, but this is another word one can use for 'accustomed'. Admittedly, not many people use it, however it is far beyond the capabilities of a four year old to understand.
It is.....but there are very many grey areas. I like to help out all of my liveries when they ask, or when it is needed, however some horses take more time than others. For example taking photos of horses who are for sale, or horses who injure themselves more frequently than others....then you find that although ALL your customers are paying the same amount at the beginning of the month, but not all customers are having as much time spent on their horses; so in essence it can work out quite unfairly for some customers....and of course if the YO doesn't charge for her time, then really she is out of pocket too.
I don't know; I think people forget that this is business; yes all of us YO's want to do whatever we can and mostly there are no gripes, but if this were any other type of job, you would be paid extra for going out and checking on horses in the middle of the night or running around a field for 3 hours trying to help someone sell their horse.....
.... and most of us aren't paid extra for these services.
I'm also not a penny-pincher Rochelle and I do understand where you are coming from, but as Baubles says, you can still easily sort out this problem without losing anything.
