Do I have the WORST liveries in britain??

i can understand why they have bought hteir own feed, you have made much of them 'stealing' yours without paying for it but if they were under the impression that the feed was included in the price they pay, then they would not consider it stealing - only using what they had paid for.

Sorry if my comments have already been covered, I'm rather late into this one...

Perhaps a gentle friendly over drinkies chat is order with them?

It was never really a big problem, it was more of a "Why are they feeding more than they need" or "Why have they gone and bought more feed". It is sorted now, I will feed the horses on a morning and evening and the owners have their own feed now to feed as and when they like?!

They knew (or I thought they did) that only two feeds a day were included in the price. They all sign a contract when they move into my yard and it does state clearly in there about what is included in the price they pay for full livery!

Maybe you're not so bad!

Hope you find a solution so you're all happy. Thanks for an exciting debate.

The word "stealing" was never mentioned! I did however tell them if all my liveries took an extra feed for their horse when they felt like it I would have very little feed left and be out of pocket!

Ask them to pay you by standing order.
Let them buy their own feed.
And let them make their own mistakes.

That's my feeling on this issue too.

ditto that.

have to say thought the whole feed thing i can sympathise, i can stand novice horse owners who are ignorant, when i first got my pony i listened to what i was told to do and even now i listen to my YO as she knows what shes talking about.
However this is one of the reasons i'd never be on full/all-inclusive livery. i'm on part livery but do my own ponies feed. shes my pony, my responsibility and i want to know exaclty what she is / isnt being fed.

Oh, you mean the free dictionary? No, I only searched it so you would see that 'wont' is a real word.....I don't use it to find new words, if that's what you meant?

Im not saying 'wont' isnt a real word, i was saying the way in which it was used was incorrect. The phrase 'are wont to do' just doesnt make any sense.
Sorry

AHHHHHH! I didnt say 'wont' isnt a word! I said the phrase 'are wont to do' doesnt make sense! I know 'wont' is a word, i did pass English language and study it at A-Level!

Ah, I hope you've now become familiar with my antiquated use of English....I'd hate to end up in hospital and have communication issues with the nurses

And I'm just saying that "wont to do" is a perfectly acceptable, nay, common phrase in many of the older texts you'll have studied for your English A Level or read at some point (I hope!). e.g "wreaking havoc as little children are wont to do"

Sorry, I'm a bit pedantic on grammar/semantics/spelling
wink.gif

I'm not meaning to criticise, just explain xx

If you substitute 'wont' for 'accustomed' or 'are in the habit of', you will find it does make sense:
'as children are wont to do'
'as children are accustomed to do'
'as children are in the habit of doing'

See? And I didn't even take English A level

(hmm, perhaps I should have?)

Haha absolutely - as in, "No, I wouldn't OF eaten your chocolate"... ARGHHHHH.

I read an article recently about language saying that these kinds of mass-adopted changes are good as they keep the English language alive. Apparently we should embrace them

For now, however, I shall continue being my pedantic and irritating self!!
laugh.gif

NO! NO I will not do it I tell you! I will not embrace rubbish English. I simply won't. It is destructive and is slowly strangling the beauty of the written word. WHY can people not spell properly? I don't mind it so much on here as you tend to type quickly. In a professional capacity however, I feel that people should know the difference between there & their and whether and weather, and certainly NO should of's

Have I hijacked this post?

Gosh! I hope I haven't knocked you off kilter S!!! I can't help it anymore than I can help shouting at our rubbish admin man for crinkling his water bottle and snorting snot through his nose. It annoys me to the point of despair!

I like the sound of Grammar Police though! Maybe BeckyD can be Spelling CID?!

Well, be careful. A while ago I posted a thread on spelling and grammar and was nearly trampled by all the forum members who wanted to 'vent'.

Good god is this arguement still going? Cos thats what it turned into! Not willing to comment any further just in case I get accused of asking too many questions!

I don't want to be trampled! But I can be spelling CID. I got all the way through English GCSE with not a single spelling mistake in any of my work (in two years!
laugh.gif
). Have got worse as I've got older though - now simple words like awkward get me
confused.gif

But....the other annoying thing is people who cannot use an apostrophe. Argh. Don't even get me started.

This should be related to the OCD thread a while ago. I am sooo anal about grammar & spelling. I hate people who can't use the correct word in the correct context either.

Oh dear, I feel faint at the thought of it all!
