Do i Have to hack?

So, i have had my mare 18months had foal had time off now sh'e been brought back into work in a nutshell

i tried to hack her on my own = very nappy i got nervous but stood my ground and kept going
hacking with someone walking = not as bad but still tries it
hacking with another horse = haven't tried yet

i have the opportunity to hack with someone tonight but im dreading it

should i stick to schooling until she has more confidence in me or try her with another horse who is her field friend?
i must admit i miss hacking we used to go for miles but i dont want to rush her she is still only a green 6/7yro
 
If you have a friend to hack with, I'd try that. Just follow, natter to said friend and enjoy yourself.
Try not to dread it, you will send the wrong message to the mare.

But, no, no one HAS to hack, just a nice thing to do if you can. Trotting around in circles is boring!!!!
 
As she's young I would def work on it - she's just insecure by the sound of it and so seeing what happens if she pushes the boundaries seeing as she's not sure about it. I'd just do little bit by little bit - go wiht a friend so she can see the world and enjoy it, then just do little tiny tiny hacks of increasing distances on your own (start literally just going down the driveway, getting to a (predetermined by you :-)!) spot, patting her and going home. It's a shame to give up on it when she's so young.
 
My horse is like yours and i dont hack if I do it is around a field. If you defo try to relax 9easier said that done i know) and chat away once you relax she will! GOOD LUCK!!
 
I would start hacking her out and keep the pace at a walk so that she does not get excited. However you need to try to ride her out each day to keep things going and get her settled when hacking out. If riding out on roads please wear Hi-Viz.
 
So did she used to hack ok or is this something that's happened since coming back into work after having her foal?
I would try again tonight with your friend, you never know you might be pleasent
 
I would persist if you want to and like to hack alone, it will come, just give it time. I see no harm either in riding out with another in between those times. Try and stay confident so as you can ride both alone and in company and believe in yourself that you can and will do it, good luck
 
thanks guys i think i will try it & take my sister to walk with us you know ''just in case'' ;)

the girl i will be riding with is happy to walk a short ride so fingers crossed

no doubt i will be back on here at 9pm hating my pony losing all confidence etc :o
