I'm meant to be picking up my loan horse today, really excited but need to conquer half of the M25 and get down small back roads to get to his yard...and it's still snowing at home now, and more due to come. Slightly dubious about getting stuck with a horse I don't know on the motorway. The sensible part of me says wait and go another day...

Ermmm, no!!! Seriously I wouldn't - it not worth the risk of getting stuck.

Such a bummer when you're (obviously) so excited!!

I think it's a very good idea to collect the pony today. The roads are bad, specially side roads & lanes. Call the owner & explain the situation that bit is too dangerous to travel today & arrange another time to collect. They should understand.

I wouldnt be heading out in this, I got stuck with my horse in the box on the way back from the vets yesterday ( started snowing as we were driving we didnt set of in the snow ) and to walk him 2 miles back in it.

I would wait its not worth the risk

Thanks guys that's what I thought, I'll ring her now. Suppose I wouldn't be able to ride him or anything anyway, so he might as well stay where he is for the moment.

Hell no! Bad enough if you get standed in a horsebox but if its a trailer and you get snowed up somewhere, he is going to get terribly cold!
Go when the weather is better. If it were my horse I wouldnt be letting him go in this anyway.

Don't risk it hun, especially if in a trailer. I'm in the same boat - been trying since last Tuesday to travel 300 mile round trip to collect 2 rescue ponies but it's just too dangerous at the moment. The way thigs are looking, about March should be ok lol x

I really want to move my horse to a new yard and I don't envisage doing it in the next week! Thoughts of a trailer jackknifing when it skids on ice are enough to put me off, never mind horse slipping when trying to load and unload.

I have got a lorry, but its still a massive concern. Tomorrow looks to be a no-no aswell as its meant to ice over. Fri is looking best at the mo, but goodness knows when I'll be able to go. At least he's being looked after by them still at the mo. Apparantly this weather is meant to continue for at least 10 days!
