Well I heard today that the horse I saved from the freezing ditch is up for loan as her owner has decided due to his Uni commitments it's not fair to keep her.

She is an absolute sweetie and such fun to ride. BUT I already have 3 of my own and don't NEED anymore. I do adore her and miss riding her :(

BUT I cannot bear the thought of her going back to how she was when I first started helping out with her. She was so skinny and her tack didn't fit and she was quite a sorry state.

After all the work we have put into getting her back up to weight, back sorted and tack sorted she is now looking and feeling 100 times better.

She is a sensitive soul and has little quirks such as she hates being stabled alone but very happy to stay in field alone, you have to greet her quietly and gently or she'll walk away. She can be aloof when you first meet her but a quick wither scratch and she's a sweetie. She has sensitive skin and mud fever and rain scald have to be watched out for too. She nashes when the girth is done up as used to get awful galls but with a gentle approach and a decent cushioned chaffless girth she is much happier. She requires careful feeding to ensure she holds her condition in the winter which previous owners and the ones before just dissmissed as her being a skinny tb :(

I know there are lovely peole and not so lovely people who loan but I have never had a good experience with loaning any of my previous horses or ponies out hence am really apprehensive as to what will happen to madam.

It worries me sick to the extent I am seriously considering my options and if I can work around things and maybe find a sharer for one of mine in order to fund her? What do you guys think?

Doooooo it!! She sounds lovely and you already know her so well! The sharer idea for one of your other ones sounds like a good idea too. Although, it sounds like you have already made your mind up ;)

Yes bit I have to persuade hubby.......

Plus he only agreed to me having one horse which I pushed to 2 as can't keep one on it's own. Horse 1 popped out a BOGOF filly now 2yrs old and huge and I am asking for a 4th.......Greedy comes to mind.

Plus mine are all native or native X's and live on fresh air and don't need shoes. This one is pure TB shoes all round and needs feeding. BUT is great fun to ride and a total poppet and yes I adore her but I am a sucker for a gray mare with silky soft almost human hair oh and did I mention she glides down the road in an effortless fashion making my coblets feel like plods ;)

if you can do it I would :) You could always find a sharer for her - if you are around doing your other horses you'll be able to supervise them and keep a decent eye on her. She sounds like a sweetie pie.

Can I be the voice of reason here?

Acquiring a horse because you feel sorry for her, no matter how much you like her, is rarely a good reason to do it. You are already well over the number of horses you agreed with your husband. Horses are an expensive luxury.

If you have three, will he even notice the fourth? Just move them around a bit to confuse him. Go for it! The way you describe her, you know you're going to! Good luck for you and her. She sounds like she needs you.

i always find if you make a plan to put to OH something on the lines of -will find a sharer for one coblet, will sell 2 yr old, etc etc obviously none of it will EVER happen but it will get him onside . btw she sounds like shes a very lucky girly to have you;)

The watcher - you are so right but unfortunately I do know what I am letting myself in for and yet still my heart is over ruling my head.... confused I am indeed.

Archiepoo - that is so me. I promised to sell Newfie last Easter and oh look he's still here - As unfortunately there is no market for just backed ponies you know, need to ride him away for a few years......... ;)

Just need to suppliment my income a bit to justify her - putting thinking cap on :D

what about going thro all your stuff and ebaying everything you dont need any more? could make enough to cover a few sets of shoes!:)

I did think that today when I popped into loft to find something and couldn't move for 5ft 9 rugs and I only have one who can squeeze into them ;0)

Tomorrow I shall drag everything down and have a good rummage :D

This made me smile

If you are going to have 4 horses I am sure you would be able to find a sharer that would be willing to work with all 4 of them

A few years ago we only had a cat now we 3 horses a dog & a dozen of so chickens -- my husband has been great about it - probably because it keeps me out the way & stops me havong a moan about him always being @ football

Go for it :)
