Do I loan or sell?

Hi everyone, not been on for a while, been very busy with work, horse etc as I'm sure most of you are!

Had Norman now for 6 months? And I am in a bit of a pickle....

I am wanting to do a course which will ultimately enable me to set up my own business, my problem however lies in the money and time side of things. (sure we all understand that!)

I cannot afford to put Norman on anything more than DIY and I would not have the time to do him myself. I have considered a loan for say few months/6 months/year but I am so silly in the head I feel that no one possibly could understand him as well as I do which I know is complete nonsense! He's actuallty a very easy horse to do IMO. But I would feel constantly worried as to how he is if he was out on loan and scared about if they've sold him on etc etc, you get the picture. But I cannot bare (?) to part with him.

Realistically I KNOW he will have to go on loan/sold for me to get on in life but I am putting it off.

What should I do? How will I know someone won't steal my horse!

Well, when I had my previous horse, he was on loan. The lady gave me a contract basically giving me rights for the vet, telling me what he was coming with and the condition of it, what I was allowed to do and not to do, the length of th loan, and a clause saying that under certain circumstances she could take the horse back etc. If you both have a copy of the contract and have them signed, legally you have covered your own back. I'm sure someone out there would be able to understand Norman and get to know him etc! I had a trial of 2 weeks whereby the owner came up to the yard, checked we were getting on and I knew where everything was, I was doing what I should be so there are ways to make sure the loaner is the right person for your horse!
 
Why not get a sharer?? that way he is still yours, you still spend time with him, but someone else will help you and therefore lighten the load for you
 
Yes, I know I shouldn't be such a pansy about things, but I get very attached!

I'm 100% positive there is someone/more than one person out there more than capable of having him, he is a character yet he also is a very nice horse. Once I get the business up and running.....I could (fingers crossed) have him on part/full livery. It's just until then......

And I have loaned horses before so I'm not sure why now being the other side is making me so panicky!
 
Well its your horse your loaning now, your pride and joy! Id be pretty picky too. I think the BHS loan argreement is the one that was drawn up when I had my loan horse.
 
He's a 10yo (in May) 17hh ex racehorse, but very good and easy to do, wouldn't say novice as he has his moments when he gets the wind up his tail but he has no vices and is 100% traffic, shoe etc. Hacks alone in company, lives out pretty much 24/7.
 
Like the idea of a sharer, but I could only do 2 days out of 7! Aslong as I could see him regularly then I should be ok. It's my head, I suppose he is my "baby" and my ultimate responsibilty he must have the best home.
