Do I need insurance?

We seem to have found a little livery yard to rent...

In my old country I used to take on horses for schooling and also sell a few OTTB's. I wasn't insured as it was not needed.

I have BHS gold insurance and was wondering if I needed anything else to cover me if anything happened to the horses I was potentially going to take in as schooling liveries or general liveries?

Will be no more then 3 at any one time (not including my own 2 and my friends own 2).

Advice appreciated....

I would imagine as a minimum you would need to insure:

- your assets (bulk hay / bedding / feed, tack (other people's tack if left on site) trailer, field maintenance kit etc.
- public liability as you will have livery people in and out and members of the public trying the horses you are selling
- employers liability - even if only casual people to do a bit of mucking out - even if you don't pay them and give them free riding in exchange
- business interruption (if you can't work who will look after all the horses)

A specialist broker will be able to help work through it all.

Also worth speaking to the council about rates / their requirements
