do I need to call the vet?

Horse has small cut/graze on back of fetlock slightly to the side, about size of 1p. It is sore when I press it, slight swelling around fetlock but he is sound when trotted up.

I have washed it, put intracite gel on it and then put bit of camrosa over to stop flies

Am I over-reacting?

If you are at all worried then get a vet out but generally, if it's a clean graze with no fluid, then a good clean will do the trick. Maybe a cold hose for the swelling?......I'm no good since, in reality, I am the biggest over-reacter of the lot!

keep it clean, introsite gel is good... just keep eyes open for infection.

Keep an eye on it see if it is healing and if it hasnt changed within 3-4 days then call vet. My mare did a similar thing 2 weeks ago no need for the vet

depends on the horse. my tb takes forever to heal and is prone to infections so i would get vet out. however if it was my other horse i'd just try to keep clean, cold hose to reduce swelling.

any idea how they did it?

If it were mine - I'd wash with Saline solution, then apply neat salt to the wound or Active Manuka Honey. Keeps flies away, keeps wound clean and prevents scar tissue. I have no creams or ointments in my first aid kit.

If the swelling gets anyworse then cold hose, wash with saline and then poultice with Animalintex for a couple of days. Change at least daily.

The majority of small wounds rarely need the vet - dosing with antibiotics is not good for the horses igestive system and rarely do they need them. Ask vet for a topical antibiotic rather than injected.

Active Manuka Honey is brilliant for healing wounds.

if it is not bothering the horse and it is not weepy or bleeding it should be fine just keep an close eye on it. Keep it clean with sterile water and purple spray!
