Do I need to get vet out if I decide to PTS?

I have no advice to give on the subject like a few other posters, I like them would just like to send hugs for when the time comes. Its lovely that you are making plans for him now so when the time comes i will go as smoothly as possible, I hope I will be as brave as you. xxx

Its a really hard decision to make and people should do whats best for themselves, situation and horses, our boy was PTS last month, thinking of you at this very sad time! :(

OP my local hunt will take a horse after injection PTS but it costs as much as them coming out to shoot as the body is then cremated as it can't be used by the hunt x

Sending you lots of love and hugs. My old girl was pts on Wednesday - she was 35. I worried for the past few years about how it would happen and how I would know when to do it. In the end the decision was easy as she suddenly went downhill, from being normal the previous day. I say it was easy - of course I mean the practicalities of it. The emotions are another thing altogether. Thinking of you. xx

Hi indie999. We are in the same situation as you, our horse is lame on 3 bute per day. Having more xrays next week to see if it is an exacerbation of her existing condition or something else. We have spoken to the vet about the option of PTS and have decided that if there is nothing else they can do we will have to PTS. I have chosen to have her PTS by the vet as she is scared of men and we have a female vet. Thinking of you at this time, I know how you feel xx
