Do I need to ......................

we are due to worm at our yard next week. My boy hates staying in, but some liveries are very particular should i say.........
Anyway, is it necessary to keep them in after worming for 48 hours. Before, I've been in a paddock, turned him out and poo picked....

I never have kept mine in after worming although I do make sure I poo-pick every day for the following few days ( I try to do it daily anyway)

It is absolute nonsense to keep them in after worming - they will be passing dead worms. So in effect the horses should be kept in prior to worming as until they are wormed they are passing live worms into the paddocks, but that is nonsensical. So worm and turn out.

I was told it stems from 'old style' worming years ago, where the worms werent dead when they come out... but these days they are with the advanced medicine. Gosh, Maybe they do kill the birds tho...

I don't think that it can be true that it is poisonous to all birds at least, as we keep ducks, chickens and geese with our horses, all of which "go over" the horse poos and generally shred a nice pile of poo into little pieces. I can honestly say that in all the years that we have had horses and ducks & chicken I have never seen a bird die after we had wormed the horses.

Whether poisonous to other types of birds - maybe - I don't know the answer to that one!!

No,24 hours is enough for the worms/eggs to go through the system,All mine lives out but they are being wormed in one field and then moved the following day to another one, apart from 1 that comes in to get wormed and then gets turned back out 24 hours later...
