Usually I have a friend who breeds and shows natives to trim Gimley up. But with money being a bit tight I cant afford that ATM.
Now he's clipped I think his mane looks too much?
I do every other horse myself, but his is really bushy and usually she doesn't pull it, she trims it with a bot knife, I wouldn't let myself loose on his mane with a bot knife lol!

What do you think?

Oof that's a toughie! He suits the mane in some respect but at the same time he'd probably look really rather smart with it pulled!

He looks so much better clipped and past all that hair

Coll, I would use a pulling comb, but I might cry whilst doing it

I dont know! Come on peeps

Show cob, I would do it now so it grows back for spring, need a nice half decent mane for showing

I dont like those solo combs

They ruined my mates horses' manes.
I might have a go at just nipping the ends off with my fingers and my comb

I won't take it off, he does look cool like he does, very um Thelwell

do you want pics of franks before, inbetween and after!?

I actually think its all or nothing particularly if its quite coarse rather than silky. I didnt like franks inbetween so pulled it proper short. Can find pics if it would help.

Its usually a couple inches shorter for showing, but Ive let him go a bit
tongue.gif

OK, I'll just tidy his split ends

I've done of mine who had a mane like that and to be honest i'm really impressed, however i haven't done it short at all so it still looks natural and i did more thinning than anything, i used one of these http://www.sologroom.com/ - solo groom mane rake - and can recommend it, i did another one of mine properly and short and it looks shite, he suited a longer mane better althou it was a tad too long.

Agree with the comment about the Solo comb, not impressed with that at all, i did better with a plain bladed comb than with the Solo, it cuts too straight and blunt.

before (he was hogged when I got him) basically it just kept getting in the way and he would get hot under it in the summer so I kept having to plait it.

He is gorgeous!!!!!!!!
Thats why I was worried about pulling it half way, its here nor there
tongue.gif

Bear has his really short, but keeps feathers intact
laugh.gif

He looks like an old cart horse if its long and straggly lol!
I think I'll keep the length and just tidy it, I would cry if it went wrong, even though ive pulled 100's of manes, it could still go wrong

Thanks for the piccies Ester

Short manes are so much easier to look after and to wash, but M+M is much more important than hacking it all off to look good with his clip

I might attack Burger with my comb tomorrow instead
