Since i bought my horse I have been trying to find out more about his past (have found a bit - but not loads) and yesterday i had a breakthrough. I found a yard situated on an old stud farm.... emailed them and it turns out that is where my old boy was bred! They gave me the number of his breeder, Tracey Bailey!

So do i ring her just to be nosey, i know she kept him till he was 7 before selling on (according to the passport) and that was only to Andy Austin, who sold to someone else and they didnt want him so i got him!
I have butterflys just thinking about it - but i dont really know what he has done in the past and would love to know, so i know what to expect when we try our hand at eventing in march

If you don't fancy ringing up, perhaps write his Breeder a note, maybe with a photo?

Personally, I'd rather get a letter or email in the first instance, gives you time to gather your thoughts for a start!

Whichever way, Good Luck, I am sure his breeder will be interested to hear from you.

Yes, ring, if she bred him she will be pleased to know where he is and what he is doing. Unless an ex owner has something to hide they will be delighted to hear how their old horse is doing. Good luck

go on get in touch,
I emailed my old horses breeder and she was so happy to hear from me and npt only did we chat for over 2 hours on the phone but she also sent me copys of her baby pics and pics of her mum, dad, brother and sister. I was made up and got lots of information i would never have known.
I have also contacted the breeder of my new lad and keep her emailed with his progress which she loves.
Go on what ru waiting for.
Teresa.

good luck and let us all know how you get on.

Yes ring - I found a few of my horses previous owners - one came to visit one day and another one sent me some lovely photos of my pony competing and they were all pleased to hear about their old pony.

I just rang - she was very happy to hear from me! Turns out he has gone to royal international horse show showing and was shown at county level by her lots. Her daughter used to SJ him at about 1/1.10m and they were wondering what had happened to him as they lost contact with the owner before me! Owner before me did XC and working hunter etc. He was a loved horse with her and she was so happy he has gone to a nice home to be loved and pampered! She said she sold him after breeding him, to then get him back in a really sorry state a few yrs ago, which is when she started all the competing! So glad i rang, what a lovely woman

Glad to hear it! I would love to find out about Sammi, but I know absolutely nothing! Got him as a 3 year old from a dealer. Don't even know about his true breeding - I was told he was a hunter type! But I love my heinz 57 nonetheless! Rox on the other hand was bred locally, I went to see him whilst he was still on his mum, and met his half brother! I love knowing about his background and breeding! xx

I've already emailed back saying how nice it would be to keep in touch

I'm so glad I did contact her, it has given me so much confidence, from what she says my pony is more than capable for what I want to do.

I already have another batch of questions but wont bother her just yet
