Do I stand a hope in hell of selling an in-foal mare right now?

I think you have a good chance of selling your mare that is in foal, as long as you dont care who buys her or what happens to the poor unfortunate foal. I think even giving them away would be preferable than trying to gain a bob or two.

Of course Dragon Driving, such a good site, I am sure that a sound home would be found from the people that frequent such a site.

I must admit that I dont have that much to do with the bottom end of the market, so please excuse me for my ignorance on the matter.

Gosh you must be cross, your spelling has gone AWOL;)

woooohooo we got ourselves a new wind up merchant:rolleyes::D
going to have to try harder though, you're just not quite biting or controversial enough GV, although your style seems slightly familiar, been here before under another name or 2 perhaps?

Pearsasinger, I am talking about the sellers that use such a site, not the buyers who can take their pick. DD is an outlet for the poor abused horses of this country. If you have such experience of a good horse I am supprised that you dont have your own contacts without going onto such a depressing and painful site. I suppose *a good horse* is only relative.

You my dear are an ignorant fool.
Of course there's idiots advertising on DD. Just like there are on every other website. I for one would and have sold cobs to the more reputable traveller types (yes they do exist) than to afflict them with well meaning novices that do not understand horses at all.

Thank you so much for the good, sound, reasonable advice and opinions offered. I plan to try and sell but if it doesn't happen, this horse will stay with me and be assured of first rate care. I am tempted to keep her and see what the foal's like but realism and practicalities unfortunately get in the way of some of our wishes.

Queenbee yes the Newton Abbot sales are so bad, I left as I couldn't face it there. How people can take their horses to such places is beyond me. And Exeter the coloured cob geldings foals going for around £60 each. Iv just brought a coloured foal to join my horsey family, no more being passed around for him.

Gloria victous...... Hi :) I'm not saying nothing about your posts but I agree with your views on dragons driving. I just couldn't put a horse for sale on there

Tough decision for you PoppyA. But you've done a lot for her so far to get her healthy and now you've got to go and look her in the eye and say 'sorry girl, you can't stay here' I'm placing a bet on you posting next spring about your new foal :) :)

OP - if she is in good nick/good conformation/good temp etc, she will sell. Just have a look at a few sites for similar types of adverts to gauge a price and go from there.

A good local site is 'cheshire horse'

Gloria V - love your sense of humour. Look forward to more posts from you;)

Considering the amount of threads I see about it - I suspect most of Dragon Driving's audience consists of HHO members :o

OP, from the picture in your previous post she looks a nice sort. Could you find out from the seller what stallion/s or colt/s she was running with?

I would think proof of the sire would make a difference to value, & therefore how saleable she is. Without, the harsh reality is that if I wanted a foal of unknown breeding in spring you can pick them up for peanuts in spring, without keeping the mare all winter & have some say in how the foal looks. Other option is mares quality. If she has a track record as a decent broodmare or good ridden horse & can be shown ridden to potential purchasers, then its possible to sell to a good owner.
As to dd, what a load of rubbish. Don't sell mine, & not had projects bought to sell since dd around. However dd would be upmarket compared to places I've bought from, bottom end sales etc. Daughters rather cracking pony I bought for £10 by the side of a footpath. Would have been less if I had change! Anyone can buy a nice, quality horse for a good sum. But I'm rather proud that I can buy a reject & change it round. I sold one project with an ad in a co-op window in a rough area near some yards, to a lovely, experienced pc home, known & respected locally with references galore. I've also turned down people who on one level had the experience & could walk the walk & talk the talk, who answered ads from respectable places like h&h. Because I didn't think they were nice people. Even though projects had to break even, good homes were a priority, just as much chance of finding a good one wherever you advertise. Good homes are down to discerning & caring sellers, not by where you place the ad.

Op, obviously I'm not encouraging you to advertise & can't help myself. But having seen your pic could you put on a side on pic showing her confo clearly? Not as an ad, just cos with a clear pic someone on here might be able to suggest local places/people who could help.

I don't normally pick people up on this, but before you berate another for spelling issues, perhaps ensure your own posts are mistake free ;)

To revert to the OP's original query, I second Coloured Contacts. I do not know the back story, but I hope you get it sorted, and find a good home for the mare and baby.

I haven't got a full side on pic but thought people might like to see the before and after version.

PA, just wow! Absolutely stunning transformation, what a lovely little mare under that mane :) I'm sure you'd be able to sell her, take your time, don't undersell her and looking at that 'now' picture I would consider coloured contacts as a first other of call

God, what a vile person you are. I hope I never have dealings with you.

Now that is personal and below the belt. I am the first person to accept that if you give it you have to take it, which I do with good humour. But to call a forum member a *vile person* surely is taking things a little to far. I hope the OP finds a solution to her problem, but I stand by my comments about DD.

I find it personal and 'below the belt' that you refer to the 'lower end' of the market so patronisingly and derogatory. I agree with everything Meandmyself said and I hope she stands by it.

I don't like this being judgemental attitude to dd, yes lots of sellers on there are travellers and lots of buyers presumably too. But I go on there often and have bought from there once, I like coloured cobs and therefore it's the best site to buy one. I live on a small holding in Wales and think I can offer as good a home as any. I'm sure there are lots of people like me who look on there. If the seller doesn't like the person viewing/ ringing they can just turn them down

Thank you. I'll try there first and see what happens.

Sorry to be blunt , but coloureds have been so over bred theres 100s if not 1000s kicking around. Unfortunately, the lower end of the market[ uncut colys of no quality running with mares] are the very ones that havent stopped breeding, eg within a few miles of us are 200 mares- and all with foals again this year.
As a brood mare she isnt worth much - why not keep her, have foal- which again is worth very little, reschool and sell as a riding horse? she seems nice of her type. Colured contacts would be best site , or local tackshops etc. Please avoid 'lower end' websites !

We have them dumped after Appleby on the fells and on private land, their excuse is "at least we are not starving them" no they are not, someone elses problem.
