Hello, i was just wondering to myself is there anyone else out there that keeps in contact with old owners of your horses like me?
i email my horses old owner all the time and comes to see her, brings her treats ect shes so lovely and she still loves her so much

am i alone? :o

Yes I keep in contact with Mystic's previous owner, I emailed her in the summer and will do again at christmas, she had him for many years and likes to know how he is getting on.
Don't keep in touch with Monty's old owner or Mollies even though we tried to with Mollie as she changed the day after she arrived and was nothing like when we viewed her or the day she arrived handling wise.

Keeping in touch with my weanlings owner, she's only 10 mins away so comes to see her regularly, she is very proud of her so I am happy to keep her involved and let her see her grow up! I think its nice that she cares so much! She can see her whenever she wants! xx

I did keep in touch with Axel's breeder as he was local to me and I used to bump into him at shows and stuff.
The stud he worked for was sold and he now works in devon for Susan George. I've e-mailed but had no reply.

I wish the lady who now has my lad kept in touch. I sold him to a 'friend' who promised to give him a home for life, got scared of him, sold him on and despite numerous pleads to let me know where he is now has not answered any of my requests!!! I would LOVE to hear how he is getting on.

He is the only horse I have ever had to sell and it was heartbreaking. It's ten times worse now not knowing where the hell he is or what has happened to him.

Yes I keep in touch with my old boys current owner. He was much loved but just wasn't cut out for eventing so he went to a home which is much more suited to him and where he can be happier, its lovely to hear how he is doing and how they are progressing together.

Yes I do. Stinky's breeder gets regular updates and she also got to see him for the first time in five years in the flesh at the TGCA finals which was really nice.

I also keep in touch with the person I bought Farra from, and also her breeder who had been trying to track down her whereabouts (he wanted to buy her back, but she is not for sale). I had a nice comment from him the other day on seeing a photo of her showing that she is the double of her mum.

I have found that they are really pleased to know how they are doing and were happy to answer any questions I have had, but Stinky and Farra have turned out to be perfect for us.

Yep, I email the pony's old owners every so often, usually if something exciting has happened or I have a particularly good photo. They were such lovely people and did lots of the groundwork that has made my pony such a lovely boy to break in (most of the time!) so it's nice to stay in touch. Hopefully we'll have a reunion when he starts going showing, they keep joking they'll see me and him at the Great Yorkshire, it may be a few years until we reach that stage!!

Honeys old owner yes, shes a friend :)

Mystis old owner i emailed pictures/videos and how she was as they asked to keep in contact and never got a single reply :( No wonder Mysti was happy to get out of there! :p

Am still in touch with Henry's owner he came from a friend I've known for 22 yrs, now. I tried keeping in touch with Chloe's previous owner, but despite numerous invitations, she's never come to visit. I bought her through an intermediary and have never even met the previous owner. Over a year later, I gave up sending updates/invitations. Sad, really, because she's blossomed into a fab little horse.

I only once sold a pony and the new owner sold him within two weeks to a dealer on the IOW. I traced him but couldn't afford to buy him back (he was sold at a profit and it would have cost nearly £400 to transport him back) and my useless BF at the time wouldn't lend me £900 of his £80 000 bank balance. I did leave my details with the dealer for a new owner to contact me, but never heard again, despite emails later on. I still look for him in the classifieds, sometimes - that was 2003.

I did rehome a horse more recently (in 2008, to a lady who had previously owned him and so he went back to a place he grew up, with his old friends) and am in touch with them. He's happily retired, now and sound as a pound with it, so can't ask for more than that, really. I'm not sure if I owned him or not! He was given to me, but it later transpired that he was not the previous 'owner's' to give away. Far too complex a story for one post, but as the lady I gave him to was desperate to have him back (and I was in livery limbo) it made sense to let her have him!

I did at first with Mick and used to chat about what he was doing (which was rather a lot) and they would say - oh, he never did that with us. Then I realised they were the biggest liars on the earth and stopped calling them.

Shiney's old owner is lovely and has been to see him and I text her when he has won something really good. She was really genuine. :D

The person i brought my youngster from has shown her for me at some county shows and been over to see her, keep in contact via email. She also used to own my other mare (didnt buy mare from her) so have been able to find out a lot more about the mare.

Havent spoken to the woman i brought my mare from since she denied it being lame and had lot of issues with her.

yup i am still very good friends with my boys previous owner she came to my wedding & 30th(was a very close friend before though) & my old mares new owner texts me with updates on her too.

as wew all sold/brought knowing all the good & bad points of them there is no reason not to stay in touch.

Pickles last owner found me on facebook, and has been nothing but lovely, saying how glad she is Pickle was with us etc. Another old owner tracked me down through youtube, she owned him age 4 (he is 18 now) she gave me 2 old photos, a framed portrait she had done of him! and travelled 4hrs to visit him!

Yes - still in touch with Dolly's previous owner/breeder and keep her updated even though she is now living in France. I did give Jasmine's owner/breeder some information on her a while ago, mostly to reassure her that she had a home for life with me, but not recently.

I sold my gelding before I bought Dolly and he unfortunately changed hands again only about six weeks after I sold him to what I hoped would be a permanent home. However, the lady who bought him from the dealer he went to took the trouble to track me down through my vet and was able to update me, which was lovely and very reassuring as he was a very quirky horse and I had been worried when the lady I had sold him on to decided he wasn't right for her. He had ended up with a proper horsewoman who realised he was a bit different and was able to deal with him.

With my current horse his previous owner and I text occassionally with/for updates and she has access to my photobucket to see new pics of him and a visit is planned.

I sold one horse last summer and his new owner kept in touch. When I bought said horse I let old owner visit as often as she liked and kept in contact. Turns out they weren't truthful about him or his behaviour; this was obvious by their body language when they visited ("he's never done that before" as they automatically duck!). Everyone my end thought I was mad to still allow them to visit and for even allowing them to check where I was going to be keeping him considering the very poor condition he was in. Still, having sold one of mine which didn't work out I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of contact if they wanted to see their old horse.

I had another Tb mare and kept in touch infrequently with her breeder/seller and although I didn't have further contact with my Qh's previous owner I traced her breeder and another previous owner who sent pictures and asked for updates.

I sold the only horse we'd bred to a "friend", it was a nominal amount and supposed to be a home for life (she was much shorter than me and K was only 14.1hh) and I had first refusal. She sold K on without offering her back and I lost trace of her. Random googling the other month brought up a sale ad for her. I phoned and explained who I was and left amy contact details to be passed onto new owner if they wanted to know any of the mare's history and that I would like to know how she was.

Yes, Daan's former owners came to see him last week and were very pleased with his condition and his new home. They also put me in touch with the people who they got him from as well!

I was in touch with my horse's former owner until she died...
The other one not, he came from sales.
However, I sold my lovely welsh D that I had as a teenager a few years ago and the family who bought her are brilliant at keeping in touch. By weird coincidence I now work with the mum of the family! So it's lovely, I hear about 'darling Breeze' all day long... Bless her little stubborn socks :)

Yes and no. Yes because we bought Mini TX's mare from our YO who bred and produced her, so we see her every day. No because we had a bad expereince when we gave her old pony back to its owner. It was owned by a very spoilt and selfish teenage girl who wanted us to keep in touch all the time. Unfortunately life gets in the way, I have a busy job etc and we couldnt keep running down to see the old boy as often as we would like to. It resulted in said teenager texting me with the most offensive texts ever, telling me that I was vile for not keeping in touch. Apparently we are now 'Banned' from seeing him!

I think my family are different because we have only ever loaned. However, when we were younger we used to write regular letters to our pony's proper owners with photos and drawings and all the things we'd got up to together. As we grew up, we started using FB and emails and MSN (for me, with my old horse).

My sister's horse's owner lives 10 minutes down the road from us (halfway between out horse and the yard!) and she adores Reggie and is pretty much the most perfect owner in the world. She knows that horses have off days and have amazing days and doesn't mind which is happening as long as A and R are happy. She comes to comps to support them, but doesn't ever put any pressure on at all and she gets lots of texts telling her his latest escapades.

On a different note, I have a horse out on loan and he's been on loan for nearly 7 years now. I don't see him very often (in fact, I haven't seen him or heard of him for over 3 years) but whe did go and visit a few times. He's at a lovely home doing what he does best (eating and ambling and being adored) and if he has passed away I'd really rather not know.

I do yes.

2 horses I have bought from people I know anyway, so have good histories. One I tracked down previous owners who were really pleased to hear from me. I e-mail photos and keep them up to date.

I also keep in touch with the family who bought our little shetty. Not frequently- I'm not a stalker lol- but one or twice a year we will e-mail pics too.

Yes, Bramble's old owners live nearby my Mum and she sees them often - I have had her 10 years now! I recently sold a little pony I bought as a 2 year old to back etc and sold as a 5 year old to a lovely family as a family pony. They send me emails saying how great he is and how he is everything I said he would be and more :-) And to come visit if I get a chance. I think its lovely to keep in touch, for both parties.

I still keep in touch with Rosie's previous owners and send photos and youtube clips. They seem to appreciate it. Rosie was only with them for 2 years but they were quite attached to her. They bought her from a dealer so I don't know where she was before that - would love to update her original owners.

Yes, my girlie's old owner is amazing :) she has travelled over an hour a couple of times a year to come visit & we keep in regular contact via facebook & text. I had an odd teething problem or two when I first had her (over 3yrs ago) and she was more than happy to come up & help me with them. She gave me the whole wadrobe & on several visits brought other bits & pieces she had forgotten about! She also let me pay for her in installments! She is a lovely lovely lady :D

I did, regularly, until I started realising there was a problem with my horse, and then had him xrayed which revealed lots of problems. The last time I heard from them, was when I told them about the xray results.
