Do laced field boots always leak?

Apart from Ariat Bromonts which are sold as waterproof, do other brands of fieldboots leak where the laces are. I have an opportunity to buy some lovely Brogini calfskin field boots but am wondering how practical they are if my foot is going to get soaked every time it rains. What are your experiences please?

depends whats behind the laces - Bromonts dont actually 'open up' behind the laces - just vent out - its a sealed flap as it were... same with the tellurides.

These Broginis have sort of material piece behind the laces that is only attached top and bottom. You can put your hand between it and the laces.
