As tital really, I am thinking of investing in a set of boots for my veteren mare just to help with her joints etc as she grows older. But before I part with my hard earned cash, are they worth it ?. I am not expecting miricles (sp), but if they did help a little with easing stiff joints they would be well worth it. Any opinions from users, good or bad dont mind. Also if they are worth trying how long do you put them on for per day ?

I tried some magnetic Hock boots and all they did was make my horse NOT move a muscle.... Bless him.

I have always wanted to try some back leg boots to see if they helped but after forking out on useless hock boots I decided against it....

Try some oil in her feed... Soya or linseed. Thats how I help my old boy now :D And his coat looks fab :D

Based on personal experience, I am fairly sure that neoprene boots can be very helpful for conditions like arthritis. I assume that works because the affected area is warmed and/or rubbed gently. However, this doesn't require the presence of magnets. As far as I know there isn't an good scientific evidence for a direct magnetic effect. The problem with anecdotal evidence of individual cases is that there is no way of ruling out the possibility that the condition would have improved anyway. So I remain sceptical of magnet therapies.

Mmm this is what I was thinking, she is on cortaflex and has a splash of cold liver oil in her feed. And to be fair for 22 she is not that stiff, she developed thoroughpin this summer and although the vet said take no notice of it unless she get heat or lameness, I just thought any help I could give her the better. I wonder if there has been any independant trials on this, off to google me thinks.

I actually have some premier equine magnetic boots I am thinking of parting with.
I think they do work, certainly took down the swelling my in last mares legs when she was in alot.
Plus you can change the liner. You could wack gamgee on underneath and the boot bit ontop to keep legs warm. Fab boots.
I just don't need them anymore, current mare doesn't have the stiffness issues my last mare did!
