Do mistakes put you off adverts?

Spelling doesn't bother me, but animals who are advertised at the wrong height for the breed do. I have seen a 13 hand welsh sec a and a 14.1 welsh c. It makes me wonder what else the owners have got wrong.

This, it also makes me wonder what else they have got wrong. There has been for a couple of weeks a piebald (in photo) advertised as a skewbald. If something basic is wrong it makes you wonder about the 'horse' knowledge of the current owner & if this will have impacted on the way the horse was educated.

What about that one from Preloved a while back that advertised their horse as a "genital giant"? Frankly I would find it hard not to be put off by that!

Ha ha brilliant

with sites like prevloved it could be the advertiser listed the ad on their phone and it auto corrected maybe?

Constant spelling mistakes and text speak would put me off and would mistakes like 14.5hh my real pet hate which would stop me looking even if the horse was perfect is a pic of the seller standing on its back - grrr

I have to agree, for me a nightmare advert would be one with a rider wearing wellies (phone kindly autocorrected that to willies) not wearing a hat, the saddle is half way up the horses shoulders and doesn't fit, and the horse is stood in a field that has a broken down tractor in one corner and is fenced with barbed wire, the horse is also most likely not stood square and hasn't seen a grooming kit in months. And throw in some spelling mistakes and text language and I'm shaking my head in disbelief.

Yes, but so what? When you buy a horse you don't have to dress him in all the gear, you are presumably not planning on keeping him there, and honestly, it is none of our business what the seller chooses to wear or not wear, they may have opinions about your clothing, vehicle etc too ;) If all that distresses/annoys you, and you still like the horse and want to purchase then consider it a rescue mission where the horse will be the winner :)

Can't quite believe I had that rant! Must have been feeling very opinionated at the time. You are right, that's how a diamond in the rough is missed, but despite all those things putting me off an advert if the horse was what I wanted I'd still go and view it. :)

Yes, but I only window shop. Whether it would put me off in reality if the horse sounded like a sweaty, sorry sweetie;), I don't know.

In terms of the magazine editing, usually anybody placing a classified ad would be responsible for the content. The magazine normally only takes responsibility if it's a business ad and you're also paying for typsetting and design. These days it's all cut and paste so they don't even read them, let alone type them up themselves.

Depends!

If it's a few honest typos, then it wouldn't put me off at all.

But if it was, for a very extreme example -

"15.9 hors 4 sale jumps hacks n everythn! Palameeno geldlign. £10000"

Then yes, it would put be RIGHT off!

Hahaaa I spat my hot chocolate out! He sounds amaaaaaazeballs, why did you not snap him up???? :D

Although I think he was a teensy bit overpriced for only being 15.9, I'd want at least a 33.12 for that kind of money and would have offered £9999.99 :D

LOL! Quite right - though I think the last 33.12 I saw had big flappy ears and tusks...they TOLD me it was a horse, but now I'm doubting myself.

Probably a good job you didn't buy it, those horsophants cost a fortune in feed & shoes!!

I just found an ad "do you need your horse exorcising?"

Picturing a horse spewing green slime whilst its head spins round....

I freely admit I am a spelling and grammar snob. Yes, it puts me off. I think if they can't be bothered to make sure their advert reads like it was written by someone who actually has had an education then what else won't they be bothering with? It's easy enough these days to copy and paste from Word. Yes OK, people with dyslexia can't help their spelling, and I let them off :p the odd misspelt word is OK (I always spelled "definitely"wrong until my mum laughed at me lots), but "bridal", the wrong "there/their/they're", "you're/your" etc put me off. Colours spelled wrong also irritate me. If they can't even get the colour of their horse right then what else are they clueless about?

I also had ads which consist of one massive rambling paragraph. You might be telling me your horse is the best on the planet and you'll pay me £20,000 a year to keep it, but sorry, my attention span is too short to trudge through 20 lines.
