Hi guys,

Quick question, without any photos unfortunately :o

I wonder whether Bentley's boots don't fit particularly well (and whether I should buy some new ones at Badminton :p :D ) They are neoprine lined prolite boots which I've always got on really well with, but on this boy they cause the hair down his leg to 'part'

The parting is one strip down the length of his cannon bone and about 0.5cm wide. The hair is still there but has clearly been rubbed into a frizzy parting  Clearly the frizz is caused by friction as he is actually brushing, but is it caused because the boots are too small? or just insufficiently lined? Does anyone elses horse get the same thing??

Thanks :D

Clearly something is causing the hair to part so it would suggest that there not fitting as well as they should, although I don't own a pair so I wouldnt know personally, I'd just buy some more anyway! :)

It could be that they dont fit but it could also be because the horse is brushing. If the boot is being kicked then it will move and no other boot will make a difference. Is there signs of damage/scratches on the outside of the boot? Does your horse move close?

prolites offer about the best protection you can get so if it is due to brushing i wouldnt change the boots!

I agree - I've never had better boots than the prolites, and would guess that the effects you're seeing are due to brushing. Have you tried doing them up slightly (and I only mean slightly) tighter? Or perhaps just adjusting the middle strap to help stabilise the boot?

He's a big gangly baby so it is almost definitely due to knocking himself intermittently- also his back legs are definitely worse for the hair parting and he moves quite close / is still quite weak behind so this all adds up :D

...so if I'm sticking with the boots should I put a gamgee underneath? and should I tighten or loosen them? Or just leave them as they are??

NO FEAR about not having anything to buy at Badminton- I have quite a list anyway :D :D :D
