I was just wondering as when I was first on here I would float around viewing all of the posts and very occasionally write and reply to someone else's post but I didn't dare to write my own post as it felt like everyone knew everyone else.
Now I leave random posts everywhere (she says laughing) because its so helpful and there is some great advice available, but did anyone else ever feel like this?

I'm quite new and I never felt like that - I just dived in and started posting lol! I've found it to be quite a friendly forum, as they go. (This makes me sound quite nerdy - I don't use that many forums, honest!)

This forum isn't scary.

If you want scary, go on one of the pink and fluffy ones and say that you are thinking about putting a pelham and martingale on your horse, along with a treed saddle AND having it shod

oh, and that you have been known to smack its' backside on occasion.

THEN you'll see intimidating.

I still am, have been a member for a few years now but don't get very involved - often disappear for months and re-appear so never became a 'regular'. I'm also exceptional at thread killing and writing posts no one replies too

Yes me too! But I'm too stubborn to give up, even if I am just shouting in the darkness

I like it here though, people post things that make me laugh and others that make me cry, there are people with opinions and others with different ones. I have to remember that not everyone has my sense of 'humour' and that quite often I don't know the age of the poster and should therefore be careful of the tone of my replies.

[****] does having a pony with no shoes, no noseband, snaffle bit and no martingale that you don't ride with a whip make you pink and fluffy now?

I thought it was just because I was a) poor and b) lazy.

When I first joined this forum I couldn't work out how to post, I'm sure my computer wouldn't let me for some reason. Then one day (months later) I discovered the 'post' button and was so happy I began frantically posting like mad and have done ever since! (ok that is a slight exaggeration).

I do find it can be quite intimitating at first.
It took me ages to pluck up the courage to create an account and start posting, but I'm a wimp!

I guess so, it is such a large forum, much much bigger than my Weimaraner doggies one, where everyone, literally does know of each other.

However up to just, my own experience has been a good one, thanks samstar

and others. Such a shame though that some people are portraid as trolls when they are not.

Many thanks to the waste of times ( real trolls) that hamper genuine people from posting their worries and highlights

i think its very intimidating.. i posted a few tims and nothing then when i did post to help i got pulled off my soap box so to say....lol but i got back on ...lol its like that on alot of horse forums i have found. just like horse world can be catty.

Does anybody know how to put the signature pictures at the bottom of each post?

If you go into Picture Gallery there is a sticky thread near the top which will give you a step by step noddy guide on how to make a siggy - as you can see I am to much of a technophobe to do that myself!!

took me a while to pluck up courage to post and then even more to put a siggie up!

Will say though now I have no such quarms and feel very comfortable posting my random waffles.

as for the siggie I followed the instuctions where ever they are and got mine....

i think it partly depends upon what you post when you are new...if you ask a slightly strange question (or indeed one that is deemed strange/stupid/horse cruelty, whatever) then people start screaming TROLL and you end up having to make a youtbe video of yourself to be allowed entry

at first i felt a bit left out as people do know each other but then i got involved and realised that, for the most part, the people on here are lovely and helpful. those i don't like i just don't talk to...same as in real life really- you are never going to like/ agree with everyone!

SWW, are you trying to intimidate me?
wink.gif

He heee I just dived in and posted, although it took me a while how to figure it out lol, I don't even think I introduced myself actually because I didnt even know that it was something that people did, I think I posted things twice and as for my grammer....well I think I was the worst 'newbie' to grace HHO
grin.gif

I only just discovered what a troll was last year lol, there are still things on the forum that I have not got a clue how to work or what they mean, so long as I can post, read, add pics and reply, thats all that bothers me.

Not very good at this forum lingo stuff, only thing I know is PMSL

I didn't find it intimidating though, everyone seemed friendly.

I wouldn't say intimidating, but I suspect it is very much like a very large livery yard (don't know for sure, as I've never been on a yard).

I DO think it has a distinctly female persona which verges on the hormonal at times and I do feel that as a rare male member (there are a few of us) there are times, just like when riding, when I become invisible. However, input on trucks, wheel bearings and the correct types of grease to use on tow balls always seem to get a reaction, so I suppose us blokes do have our uses!

I've seen some total billhooks posted, but I have also seen some excellent and honestly given help and advice, and you only have to look at the recent posts and subsequent collection for Mary King to know the true personality of the people here.
