Do other people like riding your horse?

Everyone has said they loved him: he's very responsive, forward, you just need to hint and he does what you want. A friend says he's a TB in a cob's body: she tried to ride him like she rides hers and had to change because he was so sensitive. She thought he was a ploddy cob. :D

From what I can gather, people LOVE riding Red! Everywhere I go on him, people tell me how amazing/crazy/funny/adorable he has always been (he's 20 and has a long PC history with his owners, I've loaned him for 3 yrs).

Went to a HHO meetup and one of the girls couldn't believe he was still going strong :D his reputation certainly proceeds him.

Mine was a one person horse, in that he was very naughty for other people. I spent a good deal of time getting him more chilled out generally, from Ground work onwards, and also had my trainers have a sit and walk/ trot round to cool him off after a lesson so he would get used to other riders. I then had a few friends do the same so he was used to other riders being relaxing.

Then I had a 10 year old have a ride, just walk and trot and I could see the change in the horse, he tried so hard to interpret what was needed, and it was all very non confrontational.

Finally I let a friend ride him, as in work him. Initially it did not go well, she put leg on, but he did not go, so she upped the aids and he did not go, and she kicked and he tensed up... I stepped in and it was that she was sitting flat on him, she had not upped her energy so he did not move, he was a bit stressed as to why the rider was sitting flat and kicking him, but upset or not he stood for it.

Once she understood the rider got with him and they had a lovely time. She said it inspired her, once they were a team it was think and go, or breathe and go, or touch and go. No kicking for great walk/canter and touch to walk again. She had not been on a horse before where you set the canter and just sit, and he kept the canter the same round and round, even at a very slow pace, round and round, no reminders.

She loved it and it has made her aim higher with her own horse, which in the next month had a quantum leap in its own performance.

No one else has ridden him since, like others have said I want him to be life proof if anything happens to me, and I have done that but he is my boy, and I don't generally invite other people aboard.

Both of the ponies are aquired tastes :D very fast and sensitive to rider position, hands etc.

My horse is an easy enough ride. He plods along in the arena for a novice rider and a good rider can get him working properly quite easily. However, he is spooking out hacking!

Am I the only one who doesn't like watching people ride my horse, especially if they are not up to the standard that I would like. I hate it when somebody is riding them 'wrong', so basically, different to how I ride them! :D

No you are not. I also loath seeing bad riders on my horses, especially Sunny, as she's so sensitive, however they normally are never allowed on in the first place, as ours are certainly not beginner or novice rides.

Yes, from beginners to pros have ridden any of mine and always enjoy it, mine are nothing special just nice allrounders but they do as they're asked when asked, and everybody enjoys their rides

Everyone adored my old horse as he was so comfy - even if he was being an absolute tit he at least felt very nice. With better riders than me he was fabulous, bar the odd one he didn't like. He didn't like strangers so it could be hit and miss. I loved watching one or two people ride him as they could get a much better tune out of him than me. I was definitely his favourite though, he would always look to me if he was unsure about something. My current boy can be very lazy if you let him so fewer people like him. He can be responsive and school well, it just takes a lot more effort from the rider, particularly at the beginning, to get him there. He is very sweet though so it just depends on rider preference. He's not as glamorous as my old horse but he is a darling.

Well.. my Clydesdale cross TB Derek has his own little fan club.. in BD and with our friends.. everyone loves him and i'm sure would love to ride him. :D He's not a "novice" ride though.. he can be strong and he's a big boy.

People are scared of Fern on the ground.. a lot of my friends don't like her and I have been questioned as to why I still have her. If anyone was to ride her I would be careful as to whom because I know what she's capable of and she isn't the easiest of rides to put in nicely. I am happy for any instructors to ride her though. :)

They only ride if they're open to me yelling at them and telling them that if they ever do anything like that to him again, I will chop their hands off. Which generally means the pony is popular, but I am not. Which is fine, as it's my job to make sure nobody messes him up, not to make everyone like me.

I haven't :(

But you are welcome to, if you ever find yourself this side of the country.

I think most people are pretty wary of letting other people ride their horses (read: babies).

I really like watching others ride mine. And I don't actually mind if people aren't 'up to scratch'. I think it's good for all horses to experience different riders (especially if you have a youngster to bring on with the intention of selling). I usually get a couple of different people to have a walk and trot on mine a few weeks before selling (if they're projects), just so I knew they won't freak out at someone else riding them.

It makes me proud to see my horses 'handling' different riders, especially if they're a bit flappy or whatever.

I do think that a lot of people have a bit of an over-inflated ego in terms of thinking that absolutely no one can ride their own horses as well as them, though. Most horses are very adaptable and there's always more than one way to skin a snake!

No one likes riding my horse. In saying that, only one person has even dared to ride her! (even though I've offered a ride to several friends). She used to be very spooky and panic when she was coming in from the paddock and leaving her friends, which I think has burned in everyones memory. She is so much better now and is lovely to ride (well, was until she went on paddock rest for an injury). The one person who did ride her was too scared to ride her off lead as she said her hind end was very active and she didn't trust it! This horse has never even thought of bucking with a rider on; she just has quite fluid movement so when she walks her rump does move a bit.

I hacked out today and loved every minute! But hes not a very talented sports horse or your stereotypical ploddy cob and I think thats why people dont appreciate him for the superstar he is! But I think hes amazing! And I'm heartened by the posts that say other peope dont like riding yours either!

Rare that others often ride my horses. Tinner, well he's a young horse, very same but uncomplicated under saddle, he is probably a bit boring to ride at the moment but I think the personality which I see from the ground will soon start to come out when ridden too. Harley is generally very much enjoyed, he looks like your plodding cob but is sharp, cheeky, funny and an idiot at times, safe but silly. For example you can be walking along, loose reins, prepare to trot, Tinner will trot as asked. Harley may trot... He might canter. He might do neither, and despite the loose rein may stand still, snorting and doing mini rears whilst his rider laughs and boots him until whoosh, he's off in his best canter/vanner trot, or best of all, the front canters and the back trots. He's 23 this year and definitely getting worse with age!

I never think to let other people ride my horses. In fact all of mine, apart from myself, have probably only ever had one or two other people on them. And that would be instructors and the trainer that started them when it wasn't me.

Not many people want to ride mine :( She's hardly flashy and can be hard work. Those who have got on though have loved her, she's a proper super-cob.

Generally with kids she is very good, an 11 year old took her round intro dressage at our yard show this morning. With better riders she takes it up a notch and lots of friends have had a lot of fun on her. No one apart from me is allowed to jump her, she loves it and I don't want to risk her getting over excited and hurting someone who isn't used to her antics.

I enjoy watching other people ride her as long as they don't yank and kick. I especially enjoy it when they think I'm joking about her not going around corners unless you ask. She won't. Many people have ended up half way through a hedge/ wall/ fence because they thought I was joking about corners.

People love riding Joe.. He's mild mannered, forward but not stupid and totally non spooky. He doesn't much like them riding him though and when they get off he comes and finds me to check in and make sure I haven't gone away!
I don't let others borrow him much though - only a select few who can be trusted not to get off and tell me how "lucky" I am to have such a good horse! There's literally thousands of saddle hours in that "luck".

Everyone loves riding my horses (no one has ridden current one tho, except my instructor who never rode any previous ones and declared the new one to be "bloody terrible" lol - schooling issues not long term awfulness!)

I hate riding other peoples horses. Except Ferg. I love Ferg.

No one else ever rode my retired boy, something about him being 'insane'! Or more diplomatically put recently by a friend - 'he really loved to WORK didn't he?'
He was so sensitive, and strong if you got it wrong, that I was never happy putting anyone else on him.
New baby cob is great though, everyone who has ridden him has liked him, he's like an overgrown fun pony :)

No for one of them: Before he arrived everybody hated him and his previous owner refused to get back on him. While he has been with us I have had a professional dressage rider jump off him and have since refused to let anybody else ride him since as it did nothing for his confidence or problems. I haven't even ridden himself off the lead rein at walk ever. His regular rider has a love/hate relationship with him but generally doesn't like riding him either as he is so explosive, however, on the right day, when he is in the right mind set, isn't lame, isn't having breakdowns and when the sun is out, she loves him!

The other one is a huge yes! It's impossible not to love him, unless you're schooling him, then it is generally a no because he leans on your hands something chronic, if you don't know him, yet is an established school master while schooling and will give a wonderful half-pass, collected canter and changes if he thinks you're worthy of them. To hunt and hack he is a machine. He hunts all day, is a very polite and mannerly ride but exceptional strong but safe on the hunt field, however, he stops when everybody else stops and goes when they do. He's a 'fun' hack, generally pretty unflappable, yet has just enough about him to keep you on your toes.

Monty, the audience is still out on as he has only just arrived and is enjoying a break from racing and consequently nobody I know has ridden him yet. He looks like he is going to be a lovely, comfortable ride, fun, yet pretty safe I think.

Nope😒 it's a shame though! Beacause once you've figured him out he's the most fun, willing, clever, talented little horse I've ever known! I've never had so much fun with a horse as I've had with him and he really is perfect! I'll take him anywhere and everywhere and he will do absolutely anything I ask of him!
He jumps 1m20, brave XC, placed in elementary dressage, hacks anywhere, good in open spaces BE90, you can ride him round bareback, vault onto him, and angel on the ground, had a go at polocrosse and mounted games. Anything!
People ride him once and they've written him off within the first 15minutes... and so, they just stop trying!
He will test new riders... He'll put the brakes on, he's stubborn, nappy, and knows every trick in the book! But he isn't dangerous, he's not spooky, he doesn't buck, rear, bolt etc. he isn't strong, he can be a little lazy but he's by no means a kick along!!
I love him to bits! At first I couldn't understand why people disliked him but people only see the bad bits, and a feel like they all just wanted it easy, they didn't want to have to work to get anywhere, they just wanted it handed to them on a plate!! I was always taught by my instructor that from the minute you get onto a horse you should be looking for good points, what is the horse doing well, what could be better and how are you going to improve it? And ulimately, what potential does the horse have? How can you help them achieve it?
Soo can't fathom this 'it did this or it wouldn't do that or it's this, that or the other so I don't like it' attitude!

Just a photo of Pepper out on a hack yesterday☺️

I don't really have a circle of horsey friends, certainly not any light enough, so the only person to have ridden him apart from me is my sister. I'm so possessive over him that I'm not sure id let anyone else have a go! I think he's brilliant fun, he's light, forwards, happy and so keen to please. But you do have to ride, if you just sit there like a passenger it's like driving a bumper car, the energy just fizzes out all over the place. I'm not the best rider in the world but we have an understanding and have a great time together.

I don't let many people ride my mare, but those who have seemed to like her. She is quite feisty and forward in the school so my friend who likes riding more forward horses and she said that she enjoyed her. here is a few pics - I have chopped friend's head off in case she doesn't want fame and glory :

Incidentally, same friend asked to ride Luna as her first 'sit on' after returning to riding after giving birth! That made me quite proud!

Another pal who is quite a nervous rider hacked her and said she had a great time because she is so brave and good on the roads.

Very rarely, normally they ride Daisy as she is more sane than Freddie. Last week however met neighbour whose naughty pony she couldn't catch. She rides well and was well up to riding Freds, she's tiny and D is too strong. Why did I worry, Freddie went into doodle mode typical highland totally kick kick

No one wants to ride mine as he is a complete numpty. I did have one girl who rode him regularly but she bought her own and admitted to me after that she only rode him as she couldn't afford her own and no one else had offered. She thought he was nuts. Saying that I don't particularly like riding him either.

Everyone asks to ride my horse as he looks so pretty and unusual and on a good day looks like a straight forward novice ride (am a poor rider so can't make him look good). But when they ride him they soon change their mind, hes very green and if he doesn't like the way you handle him he can put in one hell of a rodeo buck but when ever I warn people that he broncs they don't believe me and want to try him anyway. I will only let experienced riders who I feel can handle him on him in the first place but 1 person jabbed him and he took a serious objection and buried her in the school and came running back to me, no ones asked to ride him since lol Where as I know my numpty and after 6months off took him for a 15min walking hack yesterday and he was an angel even though he didn't lie it when the cows stared at him so jogged off up the hill lol
If you enjoy him then enjoy him sod what anyone else thinks as long as he is suitable for you it doesn't really matter, the world would be a very boring place if we all only like the same type and behaviour of horse.
My yard owner thinks my horse is pointless coz its skinny and has spirit, where as she has cobs that are obese and dead to the world just how she feels all horses should be to have character and spirit is bad behaviour and poor horse handling from the owner! to me all though there adorable horses I don't want a fat boring plod I want a forward going safe but fun looney :) (and yes I am aware im a walking contradiction safe and looney in the same sentence)

I would love to ride the super cob. She looks mega fun. And perhaps I could even convince you to pop a fence on Dae, now you've seen what he can do? I still think we should do our camp oop North :D
