Do people actually buy 2 year olds?

I ahve to agree re the Tamarillo comparison. I knew that woudl come up BUT as mentioned he is the only one anyone would be able to nameof the top of their head AND, correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't it come up many a time in commentary that Tamarillo is 'unusual' in his success at eventing due to his breed type? Also, he is not a particularly straightforward horse or indeed anyone's ride from what is said so really I'd want to steer clear from that comparison.

Suggest ad change to "WB x" and as potential 'sport horse' or 'competition prospect' etc as opposed to specifying a use. can't remember the wording in your ad and ad seems to have now gone.

I do fear you are going to have to prepare to take a loss on this unfortunately. Oh and also - ads without process, as per others have said, I always avoid ringing as assume horse is going to be too expensive. Therefore, not always the best selling tactic.

The long & short of it is - everyone seems to be in agreement that the only chance you're likely to have of selling is reducing the asking price.

You're not selling her for "peanuts" - you'd be selling her for what someone's willing to pay - and that isn't the price you think the horse is worth. Big difference. Drop the price and the horse will sell. Simple as.

(and, for info, they don't sell any foal under £3k . . . . mine was priced at their suggestion)

That's more like it... I can't seem to find your mare on that first link you posted (link just opens on homepage), but the price doesn't seem so ridiculously high to me.

I bought a 2-yr-old for more than that... It all depends on the quality of the horse: you can't say that any 2yr old over £2500 is overpriced on the grounds that there are cheaper 4yr olds! Maybe this particular mare has enough quality to justify her price tag.

There are loads of foals priced at twice that amount

I quite agree with you. But the simple fact that this horse has been advertised on and off since a weanling and has not sold means it is either incredibly badly marketed or overpriced - take your pick.

I think it's really difficult for you in this position. I have to say I agree with everyone here who has already commented, and unfortunately that is not really what you want to hear.

I myself bought my current horse as a 2yo when the market was more boyant, and if you are prepared to do a bit of searching you can get quite a lot for your money.

IMHO you have a filly that is nice and average but nothing about her leaps off the page. She is out of an unproven mare and has not the most fashionable breeding. You are selling into a difficult market and on top of that you have priced her higher than many comparable animals.

The right youngstock will sell, but I'm afraid until she is broken in and showing a good ridden nature she wouldn't be a horse I would consider calling about unless very cheap. I don't even think I would call at £2500 I'm afraid.

I fully appreciate she is the apple of your eye and that she will have cost you considerably more to breed and keep than you are likey to get back from her at this point in time. This is why there is that old saying the fools breed horses for wise men to buy.

If you need her sold then £1750 in H&H and I'd surprised if you didn't get an offer of £1500, otherwise I can see you needing to keep her and investing in her as a 4yo.

Hi Forester,
This is in reply to yourself and the poster on the previous page.
I totally understand what you are saying but unfortunately things have changed over the last year with regards to price.
I have just bought two youngsters, one 2yo and one a 4yo. I would not have looked at them at the price bracket you are both talking about. I can not get to the exact link for your youngster so I can not compare but I am talking Cor de la Bryere and Clover Hill as grandparents so we are talking good lines and I didn't pay the sort of price you are asking.
I am sorry but unless you reduce the price, I think they will be with you for a while yet.
