TB's who need a quieter hacking home?

Just wondered really - Ty is getting to the point where he just needs a hacking home, but I always think (probably wrongly) that those homes aren't always that experienced.....

He can stay with me, that's no problem, but I want to get something else and it would be nice for him to get the 1:1 attention he deserves....

I would say yes, but if he looks fit and well I think I would want to be able to keep an eye, just in case he was getting pushed more than you think he should be.

If that makes sense lol!

Maybe an older person who doesn't want to compete anymore?

I think those homes do exsist (sp). My friend has mentioned the fact that she would like something to hack, nothing too mad, as bless her she keeps all her horses for life and in the past year has had 2 PTS because of old age. She is experienced and now has a youngster but not yet backed, but she does missing just going out for a hack.

I think there are still plenty of people out there that are not as competitive(if ever) as they used to be and a happy hacker is just the ticket!
Just because a person is happy to hack about dosnt mean they dont know what they are doing

,so yes i find that comment "wrong"!
As long as you are honest about him and vet the people well,he will probably find his perfect match for a quieter life

Yes they do!! I know someone who is looking at one soon - an ex racer needing a quiet but experienced hacking home, the lady in question loves TB's and won't have anything else now!!

well that's good to know! he's had hock spavin so would need someone who would take it slowly with him....just not sure I could let him go again!

Hadfos - I'm a happy hacker myself !

Ok I should rephrase that!

He's not really worth any monetary value, and from past experience, if you sell a horse cheap you do get alot of inexperienced people replying!

Be great if you could find somebody reasonably local so they could try him for a few months under your not obvious supervision, you will know when the right person comes along

My last horse was a TB and owing to previous niggling racing injuries I mostly hacked him out. I have been riding for 23 years and owned horses for 17 so I'd say I'm relatively experienced lol. I find ex racers about the best hacking horses around as they have been there, seen it, got the t-shirt and are pretty unflappable on the roads. Provided he is semi-sane to hack then I think you will find him a nice home no probs

Then don't sell him - loan him so you can ensure his future. It might take a while to find somewhere suitable, but they are out there. If we didn't have Star he is pretty much what we would look for, for my mother to have as her hack

I am a happy hacker. Its the type of horse I would be looking for.

I have 30 years experience and hack because I like it. I get too sick and nervous to compete. I dont jump because I have a bad back and have lost my nerve following multiple rib fractures whilst show jumping. I dont even like trotting poles!! Bucking, rearing bolting dont phase me, but put a trotting pole down when I am in the arena and I feel a panic attack coming on.

My horse has bone spavin, side bone and a previously spilt tendon and we suit each other perfectly.

So yes there are people out there, but not many.

I wouldnt sell your horse, but loan him with full written contract, a home vetting and be very very careful.

thanks guys - I wouldn't loan him again but probably give him away to someone I knew....hence the reason I wouldn't advertise him now as you hear too many horror stories! He's such a lovely boy and I want him to go somewhere that he'll be loved (not that I don't!) and he'll be someones sole focus.

I've been going through this for the last few years with him and I don't want him going from loan home to loan home - I want someone to take him on, warts and all and just have fun on him...
