Do people exchange/swap horses? Would this work?

This has been very difficult and a long time in the thinking but due to lots of different reasons, (see previous posts) none of which are my horses fault, I have decided I want to change my horse from a lovely more competition type to a happy hacker.

My girl is a lovely 4 1/2yr old 16.1 AA X ISH. She is well bred, well handled and doing well for her age, but obviously due to age not novice ride, but equally not that difficult. she has loads of potential but does need work at least every other day.

I want an easy going 15.2+ happy hacker type horse, ID, cob, connemara type who can be rideen every 3 or 4 days but fine if not and happy hacking and doing sponsored rides.

Would an exchange like this be possible or do I have sell one then look for another - only curious if anyone has ever had any success in 'swapping' horses???? If I were to exchange are there any specific websites etc that handle this???
 
cant help with exchange side of it all as never done it before nor have i sold one but if I was you I would look at selling your mare on 1st which by the sounds of her wouldnt be too hard to do and then you can look at getting yourself something you want as a happy hacker..
 
A friend and I were considering doing this as her horse isn't great at hacking alone (something I do rarely) and mine isn't able to jump any more. We didn't in the end for a few reasons but I think that unless you do it with somebody you know it would be difficult. Dealers might take your mare in part-ex (may or may not require extra money depending on the price of yours and the one you want) but you would have to find a good one that you trust to find your mare a good home as well as to sell you a good horse that would suit you.
 
Try Horseswap.co.uk my friend swapped her youngster on there for a 7 yr old that was suitable for anyone to ride and she absolutley loves him x.
 
I did a swap last year - I had a young 14.2hh coloured gelding and swapped for a 16hh ISH that was too much for the girl (my youngster was a saint to ride). She promised a forever home & seemed really genuine - She wasnt! She sold him a week later andwouldnt tell me where he had gone because she had mistreated him and he was in a right mess (in touch now with new owner who told me & showed me photos). The mare I got had been out of work for ages, her feet where half the size they should have been as in the 6 weeks she had her she never had shoes on & hacked her out and generally made a mess of her! However she is a beautiful horse and I could never part with her, I've had physio, dentist, schooling work for her and she is like a different horse now :-)

Bascially if you do swap go in with your eyes wide open and dont rush it, I was rushed into my swap by the girl, try the horse a few times like you would if you were just buying and make sure they are right for your horse :-) I'l pm you the girls name who swapped me just incase you stumble across her as she is well known for serial swapping!!
