Theres a horsey table top sale in my area next Friday, it's £10 a table for the seller and I have literally 100's of things to sell, Rugs, bits, books, boots, etc etc! I've never been to one before so wondered if they are popular?
or am I wasting my time and should I just pop them on Ebay?
Also do people try and barter?
Thanks in advance for any help

Yes they do, but they are looking for a bargain so will haggle. It has to be a good accessible venue and be well advertised.

Label everything with the prices before you go and try not to have it all in a heap. Clean your leatherwork, the better it looks the more likely you are to get a good price. I am amazed at the total rubbish that some people take that I would put in the dustbin - some of it has hardly ever been cleaned or cared for. Rugs usually go well, but should not be filthy.
You might get better prices on ebay for the higher value stuff, but if you just want to get rid of it then a tack sale is good.

I got £60 for a Sabre bridle and paid £20 for a Heather Moffat seat saver and have bought rugs for £5.00, stirrup irons for £5.00 and a Barbour type coat for £12. A saddle carrier for £10. Bits are generally around £5.00 although I got £25 for a Myler once. So that is the sort of price range most things go for.
A nice jacket could go for £30.

Loads of people go! The last one i went to i got all the BHS stage books for £3 the lot! bargain,i was doing my exams back then and was over the moon, havn't been to one in ages but am off to one on saturday at our local blue cross, need some bits for 2 new horses we have. I got a full lungeing system once for £5,lost it in a yard move but that was a really good bargain.

JillyB - I'll be able to let you know after next friday if it's popular or not.

Orangehorse - Thats the sort of prices I was thinking, I've got about 5 bits for sale charging between £3 and £7, a fal pro (barely used) waterproof excercise sheet for £20 and new fly rug for £25, all the other stuff is old but well cared for and I'm selling just for a couple of pounds, oh and some horsey books for about £3 each aswell, I hope these prices are reasonable/cheap lol

Thanks for both your help

Yes they do but having organised one earlier this year, £10 is a bit steep per seller...we usually do £6, advertise everywhere via local press, email riding clubs and evening ones during the winter weeks are popular too!!

I went to one recently and there were lots of people there but the items for sale weren't good, they were either local tack shops selling brand new stuff or an absolute load of cr@p that most people would have thrown out.

Probably wouldn't bother again.

I went to a tack sale last night as a seller. It was only £5 per table and was very well organised. I had numerous rugs to sell all clean of various sizes priced between £12-£25, as well as the usual type of items (bits, new leather girth, stirrups for only £2 etc). I only managed to sell rugs 3 one of which was a newly cleaned Arion with full neck for only £15! People did seem reluntant to part with their money or were buying worn out looking numnahs in garish pink lol.

It seems people want things ridiculously cheap or for practically nothing.

I came home with most of my wears, which were all in very very good condition so it was slightly disappointing.

On a positive note I bagged a fantastic genuine Thermatex rug in immaculate condition for £30 which made it all worthwhile :grin
