Do people have no respect anymore??

I've emptied mine where it stood full of someone else's muck too! Our yard is really nice but if you don't want your stuff using and leaving elsewhere, like forks etc it is best to hide them!!

I often discover my tools in other peoples stables, or that they've been used as they have straw in them (I'm on shavings). Also people fail to sweep up after themselves :( I hate it when people leave barrows on the yard full of muck, sometimes left overnight too :(
I always ask if I need to borrow anything and tidy up after myself.

I'm very lucky at the yard I am now. There's just the two of us renting stables from a local farmer, and while we both borrow each other's stuff (wheelbarrow, yard brushes, fork) etc, we have an agreement that those kind of things are ok to borrow and we always put it back where we found it. When there are two of you mucking out two stables, it takes far less time if you don't have to wait for one person to finish using the tools and you can borrow someone elses :D Things like headcollars, leadropes, grooming brushes and tack are never borrowed.

We also help each other out when we can on my yard. If I go up and can see her horses have run out of hay, I'll happily fill a couple of nets and hang them until she can get there. She fosters and sometimes gets held up with social worker visits etc. I know she will do the same for me if the situation is reversed. We've also both agreed that if there are any issues, we'll talk about them rather than bottle things up and let it bother us. It all comes down to basic respect at the end of the day.

Things weren't quite so simple at the first yard I was at though. I wasn't aware of things going missing until it was time for me to move, but when I packed my stuff up when I left, I discovered umpteen nets were missing, a HW turn out rug had mysteriously disappeared as well as a fly rug. God knows how many brushes, feed scoops and headcollars/leadropes had vanished. It's upsetting to think that people you trust would steal from you :(

The others used to allow their horses to wander around the yard (something we all used to do because it was the only exercise they had in the winter as there was no turnout) but their horses used to pull my horse's hay net out over the door and eat it and no one would push it back over before they left which meant that my boy would often be standing with nothing to eat until I got there in the evening. I would never dream of letting someone's horse stand for hours with no food :(

We see these 'what would you do' and 'I just found out' type posts and I do feel for people who naturally want to avoid confrontation...

I'm afraid if you saw one from me it would be 'Some cheeky b****** used my <insert item here> and now I'm sat in the police station waiting to be charged with murder by inserting <insert same item identified here> up their nostrils....can anyone raise any cash to bail me out??'....

:D
PMSL!

It used to drive me mad when people borrowed our wheelbarrows/forks and didn't put them back, when we were at livery. But I wouldn't leave my rugs/headcollars etc lying around in other people's way, either.
