As title really. Our yard really needs a mini, firstly as a companion (only 3 horses on yard, and 2 can't go out hacking together, as retired one goes mental) but secondly as lead rein/ first ridden for my neices and nephews would be great. Actually, just one that'll give the odd pony ride would be ideal.
But I just can't imagine people would loan them as they are cheap to buy. I'm off to do a search now, but just wondering if I'll have to buy one

The kids will prob want a bigger pony in a yr or so, but for now I think a shettie would be fine for a bit of fun. (and it would be pampered constantly by me

Hmmmm rescue centres perhaps? Ideas?

Rescue centres have LOADS. I loaned mine out while I was at uni, though it wasn't very successful. So occasionally they come up. But rescued is prob the way to go.

Yeah, I can't find many being loaned privately. Scanning the rescue centres, they certainly have a lot of companions, but not many lead rein shetties

Not that sound suitable for us either.

erm I think I saw one in this weeks H&H under horses for loan. I might be wrong but I think there was.

Have just heard of a Exmoor 12hh mare, 15 years - been ridden a lot and needs rehoming asap. It is one of the ponies on Knettishall Heath and suffers from sweetitch, so can't be left out in the forest with the rest of the herd. Probably won't be of interest to you, but as you are in Suffolk and pony is not that far from you, thought I would mention it.

I work at a riding school and we've had a few offers of Shetlands on loan over the years. I think people buy them for their children and then don't want to give them up fully so they ask to loan them to us. You may be lucky, there are loads of Shetland field ornaments around, someone may be pleased for you to take one off their hands.
