I am really starting to get fed up of looking now, I find horses that sound great get in contact with owners that say they would loan with view to buy then suddenly after me asking lots of usual questions as you do, I get the really want to sell now story.

I just really really wish I had the cash upfront to go out and buy the horse of my dreams, sadly though I can't...just yet.

I am looking for Loan with view to buy as I want to really make sure the horse is right for me, I am not looking for anything too special just so long as it can hack out alone and in company whilst being sensible and helping me re-build my confidence out hacking again.
I can give a horse a truely fab home that will be cared for to my highest standards as always, loved, fussed cuddled the lot...but where am I going to get one from?

I could buy a horse in about 4-6mths but don't want to waste the summer weather without one, so hence loan 1st and that way I can pay off the horse or just wait until the loan ends, and hand over the cash to the owner then...I don't give up horses easily either
Can anyone please recommend me anything?
Maybe I am not coming across too well or something?
I understand the owners side too, not wanting to have their horse pushed from pillar to post but I wouldn't take the horse if I felt it wasn't going to be right upon viewing it etc, and I only ever ask about those that are advertised as loan with view to buy.
What else can I do, I don't want to have a nutter of a horse either (have been offered some of these too) after all my ads say safe and sensible...hmm!
Please help!!! :) don't know what else I can do

What about looking at horses advertised for loan, then approach the subject of you buying it eventually? Lots of owners think that they'll never sell, but when they get used to not having the horse around a lump of cash is very attractive indeed! I bought one of mine this way!! Or if your desperate to buy now can you get a bank loan, you'll still be paying in installments for the right horse!:D

Like you say most say they will never sell, and I don't want to be in the position either of fallin for the horse having a whale of a time and then the owner wanting their horse back.... :(
I was so close to having my friends horse and he was great, but she wanted him back after a year so didn't pursue it sadly.

Just wonder if you are giving inadvertently, the wrong message to sellers.
Might ring alarm bells with them if they think you don't have the money to buy, and you want to have a horse to ride for the summer.
Problem is, they can't be sure that, a) you will have the money in 4-6 months b) you might try to renegotiate the price later if you can't afford it, or, c) just want a horse for the 'riding season'.

Are you being clear that you are happy to sign a contract stating your intention to buy after agreed period and vetting ?

Oh yes definately, I have been looking since about October so it's not just a summer thing either I have a well paid job and will sign anything to say I shall pay the agreed price on such and such date or whatever most definately and it's difficult expressing to them that I am not a timewaster or will return horse if I get fed up as I know I won't... I never tire or get fed up of horses in my life...

I have just put mine out on LWVTB. But to be honest I think I'm in the minority as I would prefer the horse back if things went wrong than see him passed around. Even now I try and minimise the risk involved to myself, I am sure you can appreciate just how wrong the situation could potentially go!

I had a load of response to the advert I placed for my horse. What swayed my decision was one person who was very easy to deal with, seemed very sure that she was going to purchase and offered me a deposit up front - to me that just confirmed she wasn't a timewaster looking for a summer joyride.

I have a horse thats out on loan which should have been LWVTB, she's about to come back to me as the loaner doesn't have time, its a bit frustrating that I now have the job of re-homing the horse when I though i'd got it sorted. I've been approached by someone else who wants LWVTB but i've said no because I don't want to go through the whole process again.

As the owner its a difficult position to be in, just for arguments sake say that you sign a contract saying you'll buy the horse in 4-6 months time but when that time comes you don't have the money - does the owner take the horse back? Or leave it with you where it seems perfectly happy and all is well? Say the owner leaves it with you and then something happens in your life which means you can't keep the horse, as it belongs to someone else chances are you'd end the loan and return it, the horse is then a bit older therefore possibly a bit more difficult to re-home.

I understand that its frustrating for you trying to find something but as the owner you're ultimately responsible whatever happens.

it's going to be a case where I will just have to wait those months horseless at this rate and then have the drama's of finding a horse to buy... I hate waiting, my job and hubby's job is very secure (armed forces) and I work for the MOD too, we have no debt no real outgoings therefore are in a great financial situation.

I bought my last horse this way but I guess that was over 10yrs ago now.
I completely understand your point as the owner most definately, as I would also hate to be in this situation and have the horses's best interest at heart.

I don't have one for sale, but if I did, I would do this :)

I got Andy on LWVTB and I think the only reason was because we are friends with his old owners and have bought a pony off them in the past so they trust us.

I think maybe if you can find a good horse through word of mouth LWVTB will become more possible. :)

If you have a secure double income, no debt and few outgoings then it shouldn't be too long before you are in a position to buy surely? Say to keep a horse costs £300 a month, you have been looking since October - have you been putting that money aside? You could theoretically have saved enough to buy half a reasonable horse by now anyway. If not start saving!!! Or consider a bank loan if the right horse comes up for sale in the interim.

What about offering to lease with view to buy instead? You pay the owner a set monthly amount to loan the horse, and if you buy at the end of the lease period then the lease payments are deducted from the purchase cost. If you choose not to buy the horse then the owner keeps the lease payments. That way you show the owner you are committed and not just up for a 'free summer horse'.

You'd have to be very lucky to find such a thing. I'd be very reluctant to do this with all but the hardest to sell horse or one that had problems or issues. Otherwise, you're losing the chance of selling the horse with no guarantee the loanee will pay up, and meanwhile the horse is getting older and possibly de-schooled. There are so many cheap horses around just now that I'd find it hard to believe that if someone wanted one enough, they couldn't raise the cash somehow.

Personally I'd like a 6 or 7 year old showjumper already jumping 1.25s, but can't quite stretch to it financially right now without selling my present horse. I doubt I'll get one on loan. If I was a good enough rider, I might get the ride on one. Maybe thats the way to go - offer schooling services and improve the horse with the option to buy after 6 months?

I'm only just starting my new job I am planning on putting £500 aside each month for said horse.
don't like loans (from banks) hate owing money..

I wont do LWVTB you just get people who are lokking for a loan who dont want to say that.

If i sell a horse and it doesnt work out i will take it back, it is a shame but there are too many timewasters nowadays and while you are not looking for a loan for the summer it is too big a risk for a seller to give away a good horse with no definate sale at the end of it.

I would happily put a horse out on lwvtb if people could be trusted but it can mean the horse being moved and unsettled more than it needs to be and it may not come back in the same condition it went, also even in this current market good horses still sell well so ne need to loan first.

I know you want to make sure the horse is right for you so if you buy maybe stick with a seller who is clear they are happy to take horse back if its a disaster then you wouldnt be taking such a risk.
