do people really give horses time off after worming??

I always have done. The way I see it, if I had my stomach pumped full of chemicals, I probably wouldn't feel too special straight afterwards, so I tend to adopt a 'better be safe than sorry' policy and just give her the day off. But then, I'm as soft as hell - Ellie tends to have a week off after a big competition, and up to three days off after an injection - plus I avoid trotting on roads for a day or so after she's been shod...

It is personal preference at the end of the day, but having known some horses react badly to a wormer, I personally don't feel it is fair to ask a horse to work after being wormed.

I probably wouldn't ride after I gave the wormer for the remainder of the day but as far as i'm aware giving them time off is a new one for me!

I do but then my horse doesn't react well to wormer and often has a bit of a sore belly the day after. The pony is fine tho and gets worked.

erm no.
I'm feeling a bit bad now reading every one elses horses get time off for loads of stuff. He was ridden twice before he had his jabs this year then ridden the day after too :o

I ride them worm and prob give next day off, but no more. I egg count in summer so not a problem and tend to be careful what I worm. I used pramox once and 3 horses colic'd mine included, same with equest, equimax seems ok as do 5 day, eqitape and the older wormers. Basically i try not to worm! Just tape and small encysted. So far so good (and ive seen inside my 32yo's tummy, and all was well:D

Hi one yard I was at was very vigulant at worming and you had to hand in your used tubes/packets etc. (I don't think anybody bought it and merely emptied the tube in the bin), and you were not allowed to put your horse back out in the field till you had provided said used tube/packet. Usually the horses were required to be wormed on a Sunday so it was not a problem as my horses traditionally had Monday as a rest day so they got the wormer and had a day off anyway.

The only time a wormer caused my horse a belly ache was when I first purchased him.

Did the dutiful worming and kept him in but rode him and he was sore on his sides, but I realised he may have had a worm burden as they couldnt remember when he was last wormed.

Other than that not really but I would normally try to give it in the evening and poss with days off after??
