I have come to the decision that i will have to let my 8yo TB mare go as she is totally wasted here as a field ornament , however I will need to replace her as my little boy will still need company. What I want to know is has anyone ever completed a successful swop , ie we are looking for something possibly older or with an injury that restricted it to hacking but our mare is more suitable for a younger person who has outgrown their horse and wants to do more. Hope this makes sense to at least some of you , basically I'm a bit scared of letting her go and then not being able to find a replacement for ages. Where and how would you advertise something like this?

If you need a companion anyway, why not keep the horse you already know and love? Is she not a suitable companion?

If she is a nice uncomplicated horse I am sure there might be people out there who has a companion horse and would like to swap with you.

She is not working out to be a suitable companion as my lad is a very good doer ,she being TB is well a TB so she needs hay in the field in the winter he eats at least his fair share and I'm left battling with his weight issues. Also when I got her my son and i shared the two horses but due to A levels and uni in september the only help I'm getting is that my very novice OH will occasionally get on her and plod round the block with me , which is really not enough for her and if I ride her then my lad gets less exercise! More weight issues and defeats the object as its him I'm besotted with although I really do want the best for her.Just not sure how to go about this as what we really need is something semi retired.
