Do people treat 1 horse owners differently?

When to yard today, found that my veterinary practice had left a large bottle of champagne and a large handmade chocolate bar with a horse design on it for the other livery at the yard that uses this practice. Not so much as a card for me............I thought that was pretty rude.
I guess that's because my horse only has the vet out once or twice a yr, and they have 5 horses and every time anythng goes wrong (however trivial) they call the vet.
I also find the farrier always puts my horse at the end after her 5 by which time he seems to have lost interest.
It seems to me that if you have one horse people don't value your custom much.
 
Yes I think its true to an extent but is that not the same in any business? Christmas presents are given to the best customers to thank them for their loyalty.

I was having problems last year with the vet being unwilling to come out to Daisy when she later turned out to have a tendon injury. I mentioned to YO who has over 40 horses, one phone call later from a more valued customer and the problem was solved, vet came out the next day.

Are you serious?!?!? IMO that is completely unacceptable on the vet's behalf... My vet (who I get along with extremely well and is an excellent vet and I'm glad to have him in my area...) will come out as soon as he can (usually within 1 - 2 hours depending on where he is, how busy he is etc.) even if Ali is just slightly lame...
 
just console yourself with thoughts of how much her vets bills must come to!!....

I never have had a card from vet or farrier...but do from my local garage where I fill my car and the Horsebox signed by all the staff!!!! I spent over £100 in one day recently so I think I deserve one!

We have six neds and a wonderful farrier and vet, we would have no others. We do not get, or expect, presents or cards from either. they do not have the time or money to do these things.
 
Yes, I would ordinarily not have given it a second thought that my vet had not sent me a card...... But I was somewhat disappointed when I saw this beautiful present for a fellow livery.
Still I value myself on having better horse management skills than her (she knows virtually nothing) hence I only tend to call the vet out when I have a serious problem on my hands/for routine jabs.
 
Vets and farriers certainly shouldn't give priority to multiple horse owners - in the vets' case it should be based on the seriousness of the call-out. But I'm not surprised that that vet only gave the champagne/chocs to the most major client. like dwi said, it's the same in all businesses.

On the flip side, horse owners can sometimes think that whatever is wrong with their horse must be the most important thing that the vet has to deal with at the time. At the practice I was working at over the summer, a serious emergency colic came in, it was decided to operate and then it was all hands on deck. It meant that one of the vets had to postpone a set of vetting that he was doing for another client. We explained to the owner why we had to cancel, but she kicked up the most almighty fuss, sent a letter of complaint etc etc.

I mean, If it was your horse colicking, wouldn't you want the vets to drop everything to treat it? I know I would.
 
She paid for the presents in a round about sort of way!

It is the same as any business, if someone is a good customer, you will go the extra mile for them....

I think that's fair of them really. At my work, we have differnet levels of clients because of the different amounts they spend. People who have given us more business get bigger presents. Other clients just got an e-card. Clearly, this person is a bit of a cash cow and the vet wants to keep them sweet. The vet needs to put food on the table!
 
Our vets dont send anyone anything! the farrier is equal with everyone apart from one girl with a little [****] of a pony that she wont admit is horrid. When doing bowling at the xmas party farrier commented he was doing so well as he was imagining pins as said pony HAHA!

Perhaps it's a consolation pressie? 'Sorry you've had to spend so much money on your darned horses with us, so here's a pressie to make up for it, no hard feelings eh?'!!!!

I always get a card from my farrier, but he's been shoeing my horses for 19yrs, and I know his wife too. I usually get him some chocs or a pack of beer as a thankyou.
 
I have never got a card or pressy from my vet or farrier and I have 4. Having said that, even better than a pressie is that I totaly trust and can rely on both my vet and farrier. My farriers only vice is turning up early. Thats got to be better than a card!
 
I think the answer, generally, is yes 1 horse owners are treated differently.

I know that my vet will pull out all the stops for me if I need him and I also know that he won't for a number of other people, however that may just be because he doesn't like them, rather than them only having 1 horse.....and yes I do get Christmas cards and bottles of wine from him. But then I was also given that by my previous vet in the UK.
 
I have 4 horses and have just paid a £400 vet bill yet Ive never had so much as a card from mine. Same with the farrier. But TBH I've never expected one! As long as they help me when needed I dont need a piece of card! :P
